Fighting eldritch aliens on a dead planet

The adventures of the Artemis crew continue! They reached their destination --- the first deep-space colony, Paradise-1. The colony is home to thousands of colonists..  But why can't the crew find any sign of life? This was my most anticipated book of 2025. After the high of Paradise-1, I had a lot of hopes for the prequel. Unfortunately, Revenant-X fell a bit short on my hopes and predictions. I wasn't entirely happy with some choices made in this sequel, but I enjoyed it nontheless. What I loved most was to be back with these characters. They already went through a lot of trouble in the prequel, forged friendships and grew individually, and I've grown very fond of them. To see them back in action again kind of felt like meeting old friends. The character growth continues through this book for most of them, but a few individuals fall a little short on that part.. (iykyk) The friendships and care these characters show for one another really gets to me. I whole-heartedly enjoy their dynamics. The humor and sarcasm that I've enjoyed in the previous book is back again and was a nice break inbetween more monotone scenes or dreadful sections. Story-wise, this book definitely had a slower pace than its prequel. Which was fitting for the most part, but I think a few sections could've been shortened. Whereas Paradise-1 had a lot of action and some horror elements, Revenant-X mostly felt like an adventure with occasional action and brief moments of escalation. Few of the questions remaining from the prequel get answered, and even more mysteries arrise. Of course it's too soon to judge, with the final book not even announced yet. But I do wonder if the author, perhaps, went a little too far with certain aspects and ideas. Or perhaps this is just due to the fact that I personally had different expectations as to where this story would go. All in all, Revenant-X is a little weaker than its prequel, but if you enjoyed the characters and the world that's been explored so far in Paradise-1, you'll certainly enjoy this one as well.
