Rueda del tiempo 1/15 The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. El camino ha iniciado y he llegado a la primera parada, tal vez maravillado como Rand, Perrin, Mat, Egwene y Nynaeve al llegar a cada nueva ciudad. Me da un gusto decir que este no es solo el inicio del camino para leer La Rueda del Tiempo, si no tambien para leer mas sobre fantasia (El señor de los anillos, El archivo de las tormentas, La primera ley, Malaz, son algunos que ya estan en la lista). Ahora solo resta dar el siguiente paso para adentrarme más en la aventura, entrar más en el Patrón y que la Rueda teja el destino. Hay muchos momentos que me quedan en la memoria de este primer libro. Aun asi, de escoger 3, me quedo con La declaración de Nynaeve, El sacrificio de Hopper y La despedida de Rand a Egwene. La primera porque, en menos de una página, Nynaeve declara su amor de una forma preciosa, simple y elegante. "Will you shame me to the point of asking you?" "I will never shame you." La segunda es, al igual, un momento muy corto. Perrin y Egwene siendo emboscados, todo parece perdido y, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, Hopper (un lobo que conocimos previamente) se despide de Perrin, su Lobo Hermano, y volando como las águilas se sacrifica para darles más tiempo. Es hermoso. Además que Perrin luego pierde el conocimiento y, al levantarse, descubre que su ira lo cegó y termina matando a dos de los hombres que participaron en la emboscada. La tercera es el cierre del libro. Rand ama a Egwene pero sabe, entre otras porque por ahi le contaron, que no pueden estar juntos como él quiere. Además, sabiendo que ha podido canalizar la Fuente Verdadera, tiene miedo de enloquecer y lastimar a los que ama. Todo nuestro grupo parte hacia Tar Valon mientras que Rand decide partir a otro lugar sin ellos. "I'm going away , but not home" (...) He put his arms around her , and whispered into her hair. "Not ever home."

The Wheel of Time keeps turning and ages pass - even a second time. This is my first reread of TWoT and I'm absolutely enjoying it. Getting to know about all the characters from another perspective is great and roughly knowing what will happen without remembering too exactly does a great job in worldbuilding and returning to this world. The storytelling still has a few slow parts but it doesn't (and didn't the first time) bother me, knowing it's part of such a grand universe with 15 Books. I really like the story in which Nynaeve wants to become an Ajah and learn more about the Amyrlin Seat. And I like the hints Rand gets that he might be the reborn Dragon, and his developing personality.

Zunächst vorab, das Buch hat 771 Seiten... Und es ist auch seeeehr langatmig. Jedoch fühlt es sich an als wäre das der Auftakt von etwas ganz Großem und Tollem. Ich hoffe sehr, dass Buch 2 so spannend weiter geht wie es am Ende des Buches war. Die letzten 200 Seiten waren wirklich toll, die ersten 500 Seiten jedoch echt etwas zum durchquälen. Dennoch ist das Buch sehr gut geschrieben und ich werde die Reihe weiterlesen.

Ich bin zum Buch gekommen, weil ich die Serie schaue und sie mir gut gefällt. Und weil ich High Fantasy sehr gern lese. Das Buch hat einige Längen, es liest sich wie eine einzige Einführung zu einer Haupthandlung, die erst in den nächsten Büchern beginnt. Aber tolle, ausgearbeitete Charaktere, eine sehr detaillierte Welt haben mich dann doch nicht losgelassen und ich lese auf jeden Fall weiter. Es gibt Anklänge an die Artussage und auch an Herr der Ringe, was mir ebenfalls sehr gut gefallen hat.

Nach Jahren und nach Staffel 1 der Serie nun ein erster Reread. Ich muss sagen, es hat gut getan! Mit wesentlich mehr Hintergrundwissen und jetzt auch den Figuren besser vor Augen konnte ich mich hier besser zurecht finden und die Reise von Moraine, Lan und den Edmonds Fieldern besser genießen. Ja, das Buch hat mit 800 Seiten ein paar Längen, vor allem wenn Mat und Rand allein unterwegs sind und wirklich jede Begegnung gleich abläuft und man sich fragt, ob sie wirklich noch einem Darkfriend in die Arme laufen können, aber es gibt eine Erklärung dafür. Insgesamt gibt es natürlich hier mehr Hintergrund und Legenden als die Serie vermitteln kann. Auch werden schon einige Figuren eingeführt, die ich damals sehr mochte, und auf dem Bildschirm noch vermisse. So oder so bin ich froh, noch einmal in die Welt von Rad der Zeit zurückgekehrt zu sein und werde mich weiter auf die Reise machen, Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene und Nynaeve durch ihre Abenteuer zu begleiten. Und zeitgleich freue ich mich ungemein darauf, Elayne und Gawyn verkörpert zu sehen und noch so viel mehr. Ein gewaltiges Universum, das sich wirklich lohnt, auch wenn es sehr viel Entschlossenheit und Hingabe beim Lesen erfordert, weil man sicher nicht nur einmal durch die Reihe fliegen kann.

Oh boy, this was indeed a veeeery long audio book. while I still liked it, it mostly read like a very long travel diary of some Middle-Earth-y county/continent. All they do is riding, walking, losing their group members, finding their group members and escaping evil people (mostly by ex machina). And then the end “fight“ is crammed into the last 45 min of a 30hour audio book. and I got the feeling the second book will include more walking and riding.

I have a lot of thoughts and I need to get them in order. First of all, yes, this does feel like a LOTR re-telling at times, there's a lot of similarities both in characters' personalities and the whole journey aspect, as well as the creatures and the dark lord. However! It wasn't nearly as dull as LOTR (please don't kill me Tolkien fans!). Yes, it did drag in the beginning, for the first 300pages or so, and the protagonist was terribly dull, especially in light of all the other interesting characters that showed up throughout. But then I got to the half-way point and we got some different perspectives, namely Perrin's and Nynavae's - and I absolutely adore these two. As for the world-building, we didn't get too much politics and explanations in this, but I love the glimpses we got to see of the matriarchal system and all the strong female leads, as well as the different peoples that are surely gonna play a role in the future. This book felt like set-up and dragged in places, and I bemoan the lack of different perspectives but I'm very hopeful for the future books. This feels like a giant undertaking, what with 15 books in this series but hopefully it will be worth it (fingers crossed).

What a time I had with this book and someone please explain to me why I hadn‘t come across it before?!? I read it in January this year and already followed reading part 2 and 3, but just the realization of this whole new story and this whole new world is something I will always cherish the first book for.

I have to admit that the first half is a bit slow (and life intervened so the first half took me longer) but when it finally picked up I could not stop. Reading over 300 pages in a day is quite a feat for me but The Eye of the World managed it. Already got the next one ready to continue.

4,5 Sterne. Mir hat dieser erste Band sehr gut gefallen. Erst hat mich die Anzahl an Bände abgeschreckt, aber da ich die Reihe "Stormlight Archive" von Brandon Sanderson lese und ich diese epischen Geschichten mag, habe ich gewagt es zu starten. Und es war genau richtig, langsam erzählte Geschichte, aber auch sehr spannend. Auf jeden Fall habe ich Lust auf mehr.

This is the first book in a 15-book series and, as such, it can feel a bit overwhelming; however, The Wheel of Time is not in the top-10 ranking of most fantasy booktubers for no reason. This is proper fantasy, and feels fresh even now, many years after its original release. I’m very glad to have started this journey ☺️ Reread 20/10/2024 I have enjoyed this book even more on a reread. I was able to understand everything much better and really appreciate all the foreshadowing. This time I’ve mostly listened to the audiobook narrated by Rosamund Pike, and it’s truly outstanding.
