This book in itself was a entertaining read and a testament to booklovers. Yet there were too many bits that bothered me, that I simply can't overlook, because they sadly dulled my enjoyment. As a part of the princes of sin novella series, it started to worry me a little. In the greater scheme of things, some dialogues and facts just became more and more repetitive, and as a die hard Kerri Maniscalco fan, I don't say that lightly. The amount of times some lines and revelations have been repeated, paragraph after paragraph, drew out the story way too much. Up to the point where I started to skim over some passages, which I otherwise never do. Thinking about this book further, the princes of sin also start to feel more and more like the same character archetype, to the point where, except for their sin trait, they could all be interchangeable in these stories. Same goes for the female protagonists. The "she is a mortal but turns out to actually be a magical creature"- trope is slowly starting to feel overused in this bookseries. Which sparks a little too much annoyance. I was actually joyful at the prospect of Lore Brimstone just being a simple, human girl. Until it was revealed she wasn't and it kind of took the kick out of this story. Despite my musings though I still enjoyed it, but those doubts will now follow me throughout the last installments as well and I hope that Kerri Maniscalco can best them. Because I really love her books and the world she created.
