Ich hatte das Buch ja schon vor einiger Zeit gelesen, wusste aber nicht mehr viel darüber. Da es aber um Intrigen, mysteriöse Todesfälle und Religion geht und ich jetzt die ganze Reihe habe, musste ich das Buch einfach nochmal lesen. Die Romantik ist zwar eingewoben, nimmt aber keinen ausladenden Raum ein. Es ist eher eine zusätzliche Problematik, auf der sich religiöse Verbote, Loyalität und auch Eifersucht entfalten können. In der Mitte des Buches hat sich einiges in die Länge gezogen, aber das Ende war grandios und macht Vorfreude auf den nächsten Band. Und wie gesagt, es ist keine Romantasy im üblichen Sinn, sondern wirklich mehr Fantasy in einem ziemlich dunklen Setting.

Leider kann ich das Buch nicht empfehlen. Es ist neben einem schwierigen Schreibstil, über den Weltenaufbau, bis zur Story irgendwie schräg. Auf das verwendete Wording muss man sich erstmal einlassen, was zu einem holprigen Lesen geführt hat. Die Magie habe ich nicht nachvollziehen können und manche Zusammenhänge und Gegebenheiten habe ich nicht verstanden. Nicht selten saß ich da und habe die Stirn in Falten gezogen... Das Ende hat für mich leider auch nicht zu den eigentlich gezeigten Charakteren gepasst. Besonders beim König. Es hat sich für mich schlussendlich nicht zusammengefügt. Ich bin leider so froh, dass es zu Ende ist und ich werde nicht Weiterlesen... die Reihe muss auf mich verzichten Schade

It was a little tough getting into it, but I must say Gabe and Bastian really helped in getting the thing running. I liked Lore and the boys. Though I am still not really sold on the Love triangle thing.I found Gabe/Lore more visible than Bastian/Lore ... So Idk... But other than that I loved the world building and the twists and turns.

This was a solid read. In the beginning I had some minor trouble finding into the story. The familiar who is who, what’s the place and wtf is going on?! But after a while I got the hang of it and I really liked the tension and secrecy the plot provided. The magic system is complex and with the gods connection sometimes hard to follow, but it worked in the end. Some characters made me fume due to hate and some I loved bc of the banter. I didn’t fully love the whole story, but still enjoyed it - often dark vibes don’t make me feel a book too much. Off to read Hemlock Queen now.

Ich habe das Buch bis Seite 200 gelesen. Die ersten 50 Seiten waren der reinste Blindflug. Ich habe absolut nicht verstanden, in welcher Welt wir uns befinden, wer die Protagonisten sind und was das Magiesystem ist. Sobald Lore in der Zitadelle landet kommt eine quasi-religiöse Gemeinschaft der "Bloodcloaks" dazu, Presque Mort Mönche mit der Gabe, Tod zu bringen und zu nehmen und ein Schwall Todesmagie, der von einer toten Göttin unter der Zitadelle austritt. Dann erweckt Lore ein totes Pferd zum Leben, wird rekrutiert und muss sich als die Cousine von Gabriel ausgeben und mit dem Sonnenprinzen Bastian anbandeln, weil dem irgendein Komplott mit dem anderen Königreich nachgesagt wird. Und gleichzeitig hat sie irgendeine besondere geheime Todesgabe, die für mich auch ungreifbar blieb. Mir wurde das einfach zu verworren, unverständlich und gekünstelt. Das Worldbuilding war schwach, ich fand mich nicht zurecht und mir waren die Protagonisten völlig egal. Wie man aus "Lore" "Eldelore" macht ist mir auch ein Rätsel; "Lorelai" ist wohl naheliegender. Für mich ein seltener Buchabbruch, ich schenke meine Zeit dann doch lieber anderem.

Das Buch ließ sich gut lesen, hat mich von der Story aber immer nur sporadisch gefesselt. Der Vibe zwischen Gabe, Bastian und Lore hat mir vor allem am Anfang ziemliche Throne of Glass Vibes gegeben. Der Story Plot mit den Göttern, der Religion und die Auflösung des Ganzen hat mich zum Schluss nicht vom Hocker gerissen. Einige Sachen haben sich vorhersehbar angefühlt. Jedoch war es alles in allem ein schönes Buch mit interessanten Charaktern, auch wenn ich etwas verwirrt bin hier und da. Ich denke ich werde Band 2 Lesen, wenn ich ihn mal im Angebot bekomme oder mal nach nem Hörbuch suchen. Gefühl: Was ist das erste Gefühl, nachdem du das Buch beendet hast? 2,5/5 Plot: Wie fesselnd und gut entwickelt ist die Handlung des Buches? 4/5 Unterhaltungsfaktor: Hat das Buch dich gut unterhalten? Der Schreibstil hat mir unfassbar gut gefallen. Ich wollte es erst gar nicht annotieren aber dann hat es mir so gut gefallen das ich einfach stellen makieren musste. Ich muss sagen ich hab die ersten 50 Seiten nicht ganz verstanden in welcher Zeit das spielt, aber ab dann bin ich reingekommen. Ich mochte Lore unfassbar gerne. Sie ist eine richtig starke Proagonistin! Ich hab sie wirklich sehr gemocht. Das Lovetrianle hat mich absolut überzeugt und ich habe auch einen klaren Favoriten. Das Magiesystem war krass gut aufgebaut und echt mal bisschen was anderes. Die Storyline war ebenfalls sehr spannend! Das Ende hat mich absolut gefessel und ich würde mal sagen die letzten 100 Seiten konnte ich das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen! Die Plottwists waren echt unerwartet! Der Epilog hat mich auch sehr überrascht. Die Stimmung war auch wirklich toll düster und die Geschichte genau so. Ich liebe diesen gothic vibe! Es hat mir wirklich gut gefallen und ich freue mich sehr auf Band 2. Ich kann das Buch auf jeden Fall empfehlen auch wenn man für den Wolf nicht mochte, ist da auf jeden fall potenzial diese Reihe zu mögen!

Ganze Dörfer sterben über Nacht und Lore soll herausfinden wer dahintersteckt… • Auf The Foxglove King habe ich mich unfassbar doll gefreut. Das Buch gab mir richtig düstere Vibes und ich war mir sicher das mir das gefallen würde. Das düstere Setting hat mir sehr gut gefallen, es hat super zur Story gepasst und ich konnte mich richtig gut in die Welt hineinversetzen. Besonders fand ich hier vor allem das Magie System. Das Konzept mit Mortem und Spiritum war für mich super spannend zu lesen. Auch die Charaktere in diesem Buch habe ich sehr ins Herz geschlossen. Gerade Lore als Bad Ass Protagonistin fand ich super. Es gab hier auch eine kleine Lovestory in Form eines Liebesdreiecks, die war allerdings eher im Hintergrund. Am Ende gab es keinen krassen Cliffhanger, trotzdem freue ich mich sehr auf Teil 2🫶🏻

The beginning was a little slow but once the other characters are introduced, things start to get interesting. I really liked Gabe's stoic nature as well as Bastian's rather opposite nature. I likea Lore a lot, too. I just neuer really saw the Love - triangle happen. The tension between Gabe & Lore was heavier than between her and Bastian. But I was heavily in love with the whole Worldbuilding and politics. I'll definitely will read "Hemlockqueen"

I’ve been eyeing this book for about a year and I don’t know why I waited so long to read it, because it was really good! The beginning was great and easy, I honestly was prepared for worse. I can’t really say I was constantly hooked throughout the whole book, though I also wouldn’t say it fell flat or that I was particularly bored. The book did not only deliver the vibes, but also a solid plot to go along. There’s a cult, a (questionable) church, a court where no one can be trusted, necromancy and gods. And betrayal. Everywhere. Generally, I really enjoyed the characters! The combination of Lore, Bastian and Gabe did something to me. Especially Gabe. I will say though, the maybe-maybe not love triangle was…? I didn’t particularly hate it, but I am also glad it didn’t evolve into more than what(ever) it was. What I would have really loved to see were more one on one scenes of Lore and Anton (head of the church). I think this could have been some great passive aggressive dialogues. Ich habe mich echt schwer getan, dieses Buch zu bewerten. Es hatte einige Längen und weder Plot, noch Worldbuilding hat mich richtig begeistert. Dafür mochte ich die Charaktere total und wollte unbedingt wissen, wie es mit ihnen weiter geht. Band 2 fiebere ich nun regelrecht entgegen, da kann ich dem Buch also auch nicht weniger als 4 Sterne geben.

I was so excited to read „The foxglove king“ and happy that i received an e-ARC. The cover is so beautiful and the blurb sounded so very interesting. I started reading straight away and I was able to really get into the plot. But after a while it got a bit boring. I won't say I lost interest but there was so much detailed information about the world and everything else. That was a bit much for me and the characters and their development got lost a bit. I would have wished for a better balance. Lore is an interesting character and I was very curious as to where she came from and why she perceives Mortem so intensely. I had a few good and interesting reading hours and the other characters also aroused my interest. In addition to Lore, these were Gabriel and Bastian. The investigations of these three were very interesting, but the plot was a bit lost because of the amount of information. „The Foxglove King“ was an ok start for this series and i hope that the second book focuses more on the characters and that you can understand their emotions better.

The concept of this book is really intriguing: an unconventional FMC, a dark and sinister magic system, lots of court intrigue, protagonists trapped between church and state and the hint of a love triangle...kinda. However, none of these aspects seem fully developed, which had made me wonder what kind of story this ultimately wanted to be. To me the writing felt inconsistent and some of the characters half-baked. In addition, the theme of foxglove / plants / poison seems a bit shoehorned in and not on par with other contemporary fantasy novels using a similar theme. Sadly there are plotholes within the book that are a bit annoying. I'm always prepared to whistle past these problems if vibe and character arcs make up for it, but for me here they don't. The pace picks up towards the end of the book which made me invested again thankfully. All in all I have tried to love this book as much as I wanted to, but even though it has some really good aspects and passages, overall it was just disappointing to me.
