Nachdem ich mir nach dem ersten Teil dachte, wie schön dich die Welt erklärt wird, ging es im zweiten Buch so weiter. Das dritte Buch nun hat mir weiterhin immer wieder erzählt warum etwas wie ist und wie es vorher war und wie es vor 40000 Jahren war. Letztlich ist die Story wohl auch in einem Buch möglich zu erzählen. Für mich hat sich diese Trilogie eher wie 1200 Seiten Sachbuch angefühlt. Ich kann leider nicht verstehen, warum diese Bücher so gelobt werden und sogar Preise erhalten.

In diesem Band erfahren wir endlich auch mehr darüber, wie es zu den Fünftzeiten gekommen ist und lernen Hoa und die anderen Steinesser näher kennen. Spektakulär finde ich, dass es diesmal weniger die Frage ist, ob die Heldinnen die Welt retten können, sondern ob sie, die Opfer eines jahrtausendelangen Genozidversuchs sind, es überhaupt wollen. Ich liebe diese Trilogie 🥰

The plot in this one kept on dragging, at least to me. There wasn't as much to captivate me and keep me thinking and figuring things out as in the first two books. For me, there are books that captivate me emotionally which is always good for an immersive read. And others don't, but they might still capture me with their plot and ingenuity. And of course, those that do both which is just the best! This series captured me with its plot and ideas and riddles, but sadly not on an emotional level. I'm not sure, if it's due to the writing style or something else, but I never managed to get emotionally involved. I never trusted the new Schaffa, I could sympathize with Nassun but nothing more, I never cared for Lerna... But the big finale was rooted in the premise that you feel the characters' anguish and if you don't, then it's just bland. It was a well thought out world that I enjoyed a lot and I really liked the first two books, but this one, to me at least, is just a mediocre ending of something with more potential.

What. A. Book. what a book. wow. the second book wasn't as good as the first and to be fair, this one too isn't as good as the first one. but that's because the plot lines and plot twists aren't as unpredictable as they are in The Fifth Season. i feel like everything that N. K. Jemisin opened for the plot was closed and answered without having some kind of treatise because she puzzles it beautifully into the last fifty pages or so. i just love how N. K. Jemisin writes characters and lets them live through so much pain and growth and how she puts them in a so well thought world without overexplaining it. yes, there would be the opportunity to write another book or even another trilogy within this book, maybe even with the same characters but just because the world is so big and so interesting.

Selten lese ich eine Reihe komplett hintereinander, ohne zwischendurch ein anderes Buch zu lesen. Hier war das aber der Fall. Der Schreibstil ist großartig, die Geschichte genauso. Kein einziger Charakter der mir zu flach war, keine Kapitel bei denen ich dachte sie seien zu lang. Diese Serie werde ich mit Sicherheit auch noch ein paar mal lesen in meinem Leben und jeder Person weiterempfehlen, der ich kann.

Ich weiß nicht, wie ich hierzu eine Rezension schreiben soll - mein absoluter Favorit dieses Jahr und überhaupt, für alle Zeiten vermutlich! Das perfekte Ende einer wunderbaren Trilogie, mit einem epischen, fantastischen, einzigartigen und sehr eindringlichen World Building. So vieles steckt hier drin, dass ich nicht die Worte finde, N. K. Jemisin ausreichend zu preisen. Die Trilogie wird mit jedem Band größer, wenn die Fäden hier endlich zusammen kommen und sogar die ungewöhnliche Perspektive endlich ihren Sinn ergibt. Ich liebe "Broken Earth" und kann mich vor dieser genialen Erzählkunst nur verneigen und ehrfürchtig auf die noch ungelesenen nächsten Bücher von ihr im Regal starren (sie sind alle schon gekauft. Falls es noch Zweifel gab.)

4.5* Da ich das zweite und das dritte Buch ziemlich nahe nacheinander gelesen habe haben sich die beiden Bücher in meinem Kopf etwas vermischt, aber auch jeden Fall war The Stone Sky ein gelungenes Finale. Essun und Nassun sind mir im Verlauf der Geschichte echt ans Herz gewachsen und so fiel es mir nicht leicht von ihnen Abschied zu nehmen. Auch in diesem Teil hatte ich zwischendurch das Gefühl dass sich die Geschichte etwas zog, es gab keine grossen Überraschungen mehr, es war klar, dass es auf eine letzte Konfrontation hinaus laufen würde. Dennoch war ich positiv überrascht wie spannend und emotional die Geschichte nochmal wurde. Das Ende gibt der ganzen Trilogie einen runden Abschluss, doch ich hätte gerne noch mehr Geschichten aus dieser Welt gelesen.

The Fifth Season was such a unique, well-paced book, it's kinda disappointing that the conclusion to the series felt like a lot of other apocalyptic stories. The writing is still special and I can't deny that Nassun`s chapters contained some heartbreaking moments that almost made me bump the rating up to 4 stars, but in the end I don't think that most of the book will stick with me for very long. There was a new POV that after some getting used to was quite interesting, however there was so little of it in comparison to the whole trilogy that it couldn't become meaningful to me. Essun`s chapters didn't feel that impactful either and the transition from survival story to saving the world didn't work for me. They were still really enjoyable due to the relationship she has built to that gem, but, like I said, not outstanding. Nassun has probably become the most interesting character and all the really good stuff happened in her chapters, but since the series has always been about Essun and her relationships, I wish her part in the finale would have moved me more. Not a perfect ending in my opinion, still very readable with some highlights.
