Hat mir wirklich gut gefallen, besonders die erste Hälfte. Nathan ist wirklich kein sympathischer Protagonist, aber ich mag ihn trotzdem. :D Zum Ende hin fand ich den ganzen Plot etwas verwirrend, aber trotzdem spannend und interessant. Luft nach oben ist da aber auf jeden Fall noch.

Nathan Bryn ist halb und halb. Halb weiße und halb schwarze Hexe. Schon früh muss er damit zurecht kommen, dass er ein Ausgestoßener der Gesellschaft ist. Regelmäßig muss er sich einer Prüfung des Rats unterziehen, um festzustellen, welcher Seite er angehören wird: Schwarz oder Weiß. Schwarz bedeutet seinen Tod, denn das dann wäre er wie sein Vater. Ein schwarzer Hexer, der das Leben Zahlloser auf dem Gewissen hat. Und das kann nichts Gutes heißen, oder doch? Ich kann eins vorweg sagen: Wer denkt etwas ähnliches wie Harry Potter in den Händen zu haben, der wird sich umschauen. Das Setting ist von Anfang an düster und gewalttätig. Manches wirkt verstörend. Während wir das Leben von Nathan über Jahre hinweg verfolgen, setzt sich ein Puzzleteil nach dem anderen zusammen, bevor es wieder zerschlagen wird. Das Buch hat nur eine Thematik und doch finde ich es schwer, es zusammenzufassen. Die Frage, was ist gut und was ist böse, wird schnell aufgegriffen und am Ende weiß man eigentlich gar nicht mehr, ob überhaupt jemand gut ist. Es war sehr schwer reinzukommen, was vor allem daran liegt, dass ich etwas anderes erwartet habe. Die Autorin spielt am Anfang des Buchs mit zwei Erzählerperspektiven, die den Gemütszustand von Nathan perfekt wieder spiegeln. Nathan selbst find ich persönlich schwer zu mögen, er ist mir dann aber doch irgendwie ans Herz gewachsen, weil er eigentlich nur das möchte, was jedes Kind will: seinen Vater kennenlernen. Da ist diese unerbittliche Hoffnung und dieser unerschütterliche Glaube, der so pur und rein ist, dass es mir fast das Herz zerrissen hat. Die Altersempfehlung ab 12 finde ich in keinem Fall passend. Würde es auf 14 hochsetzen. Das Buch bekommt von mir 🍀🍀🍀🍀/ 5 und ich glaube ich werde es nochmal lesen.

Ich fand die Serie „The Bastard Son and the Devil hin self“ mega, und als die Serie abgesetzt wurde, wollte ich wissen wie es weitergeht, zum Glück gibt es Bücher 🤣 Leider gibt es nur das erste Band auf deutsch, also habe ich mich entschieden die komplette Reihe auf englisch zu lesen und es ist gut zu lesen. Ich hatte keine Problem und fand die Story einfach nur genial. Ich fand es auch mega das die Autorin in Vorwort schrieb, das es zwischen dem Bich und der Serie eine unterschiede gibt. Die Serie ist cool gemacht, es ist schon länger her das ich sie gesehen habe, aber das Buch, wer hätte es gedacht, ist viel besser. Man taucht in Nathens leben ein der ein Halblut ist halb Fairborn, halb Blood With und es ist einfach nur unnormal was er durch macht, dennoch gibt er nicht auf, es hat mir sehr gefallen das man mal einen Protagonisten hatte der mit seinem Leben erstmal klar kommen muss, der Schwierigkeiten hat und der von einer Miesere in die nächste gerät. Wir begleiten Nathens Geschichte von klein auf bis zu seinem 17. Geburtstag und ich bin gespannt wie es weiter geht, schließlich ist Nathen der Sohn der mächtigsten Bluthexe. Sein Vater ist unnormal mächtig, ein Myterium und ich bin gespannt was aus Vater und Sohn wird, ob sie sich sehen werden. Ich freue mich auf Band 2 🤩

I did expect this book to be good, even though I have never read a book with proper witch lore and things like that. But I had heard so many great things about it. I expected it to be a wild ride. What I really did not expect, was for it to break my heart. "I promise that I'm not that stupid." What surprised me the most, was that the books starts in second person point of view. Meaning for the first part of the book, you are the main character, trapped in a cage, running in pursuit of freedom. I was not prepared for that, but it worked surprisingly well. The other parts of the book is what some people call "too slow" in their reviews, but I didn't feel like that at all. I would almost go as far as to say that it was "not enough", in the sense that I just wanted to know more, about Nathan's family, his life and especially his brother Arran. It's strange, how secondary characters like Arran can hardly be in the book, but you can care about them just as much as you care about the main characters, sometimes even more. Chapeau to the author for that. I hope to see more of Arran soon when the second book comes out. But all the other characters are amazing as well, I think every single one of them are the strong points of this story. Even if you think it's slow, or predictable, the characters will glue you to the page until the book is done and you will want to know what happens to all of them. The good guys will break your heart, and you will love to hate the bad guys. The story is gripping, and really interesting for all kinds of reasons, but that's coming from a girl who has never read a book with "proper" witch lore before. I loved the view back into Nathan's past, and would love to know more about his father, just like he does. But I also can't get enough of the present, and can't wait to find out what everyone's plan is. The ending surprised me, especially where and how and with who it ended. But I won't spoil you. “I thought that exile meant you had to leave your country and you could go anywhere--somewhere in the sun, a tropical island, say, or America. But exile doesn't mean that; it means you are banished to a specific place, and guess what, that place isn't in the sun and is no paradise, it's not even America. It's some cold, miserable place like Siberia, where you don't know anyone and you can barely survive. It's another prison.” 5/5 Stars. I really recommend this book, to anyone. Even, or especially, those that usually do not read or enjoy books with witches.

This book is so different from all the other fantasy books that I've read so far. The story itself is great and I also loved the way the author explained the different sitiations. The characters are all very unique, and Nathans development through the book is really amazing. There is nothing I disliked in this book. 5|5 ★

Ein schwieriges Buch.. sehr schwierig, aber doch sehr lesenswert. Die Sprache ist locker und lässt sich fliessend lesen, es hat einen sehr passenden Humor der gewisse Szenen massiv auflockert, die Charaktere sind gut ausgearbeitet und auch die Nebencharaktere bekommen ihre Aufmerksamkeit. Allerdings zieht sich die erste Hälfte etwas und mir hat das Herz geblutet, weil eigentlich nicht wirklich was passiert, ausser dass Nathan gequält und gefoltert wird und ich habe von Kapitel zu Kapitel mehr gelitten und mit mir gerungen, ob ich weiterlesen soll. Zum Glück wars ein Buddyread und zwei Mädels lasen das Buch als reread, also haben sie uns angesporrnt weiterzulesen und zum Glück hab ich weitergelesen. Die zweite Hälfte des Buches wurde dann richtig interessant und es entstanden Schlag auf Schlag neue Situationen, wir lernen quasi jedes Kapitel neue Charaktere kennen die kommen und wieder gehen oder wie Gabriel auch bleiben ❤ Ich freue mich auf den zweiten Band und hoffe dass der Spannungsbogen der aufgebaut wurde erhalten bleibt und hoffentlich noch mehr darüber erfahren, wieso die schwarzen Hexen so einfach als böse abgestempelt und ausgegrenzt werden. Ich bin gespannt..
