Kritik: Cover: Grau-schwarz, ein Baum im Hintergrund. Lila Schrift. Sehr simples Cover. Mystisch-düster, aber doch eher dezent. So wäre es mir nie im Regal aufgefallen. Handlung: Ich muss gestehen, dass ich dieses Mal leider zuerst den Film gesehen habe. So hatte ich schon ein vorgefertigtes Bild der Charaktere. Das hinderte mich manchmal daran, wirklich ins Buch einzutauchen und mitzufiebern, zumal ich das Ende in etwa kannte. Glücklicherweise hatte ich die Schlusssequenzen aber im Detail aber vergessen. Ich fand die düstere Stimmung um das Anwesen der Ravenwoods sehr gelungen. Der seltsame Eigenbrödler Macon, der seine Nichte Lena in die Stadt bringt. Und mit ihr kommt jede Menge Schwung in das verschlafene Örtchen. Lena entdeckt ihre Kräfte und kann sie noch nicht ganz beherrschen. So kommt es zu kleinen “Unfällen”, die die kleine Stadt aufwiegeln und Lena das Leben schwer machen. Als wäre das nicht schon schwer genug. Denn an ihrem 16. Geburtstag wird sich entscheiden, ob sie gut oder böse wird. Und sie kann nichts dagegen tun. Die Liebesgeschichte zu Ethan fand ich süß und romantisch. Doch genau da war mir der Film im Weg, denn der Ethan aus dem Film war mir gar nicht sympathisch. Die Figur muss ich irgendwie neu entdecken und die Erinnerungen an den Film erst abschütteln. Insgesamt fand ich die Handlung interessant und spannend aufgebaut. Die Chrakterentwicklung kam nicht zu kurz und die Sprache war sehr angenehm zu lesen. Auch dass die Autorinnen viel Humor eingebaut haben, war positiv. Charaktere: Zum Einen ist da Lena, eine “Hexe”, die vor ihrem 16. Geburtstag steht, an dem sich entscheidet, ob sie gut oder böse wird. Sie ist selbstbewusst und dennoch sehr verletzlich. Sie ist schön ohne zu wissen, dass sie schön ist und sie hat ein gutes Herz. Und was macht sie uns noch sympathisch: sie ist ein Bücherwurm wie wir :-). Dann gibt es noch Ethan. Er sieht Lena in seinen Träumen, noch bevor er sie kennen lernt. Er ist nicht übermäßig beliebt, aber auch kein Outsider. Auch er ist ein Büchernarr. Mir war Ethan immer sehr sympathisch, wäre da nicht diese optische Fehlbild aus dem Film gewesen :-(. Außerdem gibt es noch viele andere liebevoll gezeichnete Figuren. Ob da Ethans bester Freund Link zu nennen wäre, oder die Bibliothekarin oder Macon und Ridley… Alle Charaktere kriegen ihren Raum. Fazit: Dieser Start in einen Vierteiler fand ich sehr gelungen. Noch hat mich die Geschichte nicht ganz gefangen, zumindest nicht so wie andere Reihen. Doch in dem humorvollen und abwechslungsreichen Schreibstil seh ich viel Hoffnung und Potential für die kommenden Teile, die auf jeden Fall noch gelesen werden müssen :-. Also alles in allem ein lohnenswerter Zeitvertreib.

Kritik: Cover: Passt wieder zu den anderen Büchern. Eine Wendeltreppe. Kam die in der Geschichte vor? Kann mich nicht daran erinnern. Dennoch ein schönes mystisch düsteres Cover. Handlung: Ich hatte richtig ein wenig Angst davor, den letzten Teil dieser Reihe zu lesen. Denn dann würde es vorbei sein mit Lena und Ethan und Co. Dabei hab ich die Figuren so lieb gewonnen. Doch nach ein paar Seiten war ich wieder im Caster-Strudel gefangen. Hatte der letzte Teil so furchtbar geendet mit Ethans Tod, erleben wir nun seinen Kampf zurück in die Welt der Lebenden, zurück zu seiner Lena. Ich fand, hier hat man die Zielgruppe “Fantasy für Jugendliche” doch sehr gemerkt, aber es war dennoch sehr sympathisch geschrieben. Obwohl man ja die ganze Zeit ahnt, wie es ausgehen wird, ist es spannend geschrieben. Die neuen Figuren, vor allem Xavier, wachsen einem schnell ans Herz und so könnte man auch diesen Teil in einem fortlesen, was mir leider nicht vergönnt war. Was ich auch schön fand war, das die Figuren aus früheren Teilen alle wieder aufgetreten sind. Sogar Sarafine und Genevieve. So haben wirklich alle ein verdientes Ende gefunden. Charaktere: Auch im letzten Teil sind die liebevoll gezeichneten Figuren die große Stärke dieses Buches. Ich kann mir Ethan bildlich vorstellen, ebenso Lena und sogar Xavier. Alle haben eine eigene einzigartige Persönlichkeit, die mal gut, mal böse, aber immer authentisch ist. Fazit: Dies war es nun also: das Ende der Reihe. Mir hat es wieder durchweg gefallen, auch wenn es nicht ganz so gut war wie die Vorgänger. Die Figuren bekommen einen befriedigenden Abschluss. Wie sagt man so schön? Das Ende ist eine runde Sache.

This one is not really easy. It's about casters, mortals, a claim, moon, family, dark, light and the civil war. Ethan and Lena found a locket and with that they had visions about two guys back in the civil war - where everything just Started. one choice, just one minute and everything changed. It was a mix of the old american english and the nowadays. It was Ethan who "talked" which was interesting because to "see" the boys side. most books in that kind are more about what the girl is thinking. But it just goes about the girl, Lena. On the sixteenth moon, of the sixteenth year, the book will take what it's been promised. Sometimes it just could be a bit less. And there was always an "a" infront of a word which doesn't made sense. at the end I ignored it and read "at", which made it easier. But it was good at all and I absolutly will read the others and maybe will watch the movie since it's out on DVD/ BR

Can't believe it, I finished this book... after.... 11 months or something like this and the only thing that made me go on reading it was the expectation of writing a review about it so... Here it comes. I try to avoid spoilers and I will mark them. Grammar mistakes could happen since I'm not a native speaker, sorry for that. First of all: If you enjoyed reading this book; good for you. I'm not insulting you or your taste in books, I just have a different opinion. Thanks. Things I liked, because you always start with the positive things... The basic idea. The idea of letting the girl be special and the boy gets introduced into this new, magical world. The magic system itself. It was something different and I enjoyed reading about the magic stuff. And NOW I can start talking about the things I didn't like, about the issues I had with this book. My now Ex-Boyfriend read the first pages, because I was interested in his opinion. He was like: "Oh, a famous book about two girls romantically involved? That's cool." ... "It is... not about two girls?" "Nope." "Wait... Oh. Ethan. Sure it's not just his NAME that is male?" I get it. There are probably boys with interests that are not typical "male". There are girls who's interests are not tpyical "female". However, there's a reason why linguistics are able to say: Oh, this text was PROBABLY written by a man and this one by a woman. It has something to do with tendencies in our way of writing and thinking and that's a totally normal thing to do. But Ethan has a more female inner voice than the most girly girllike girl you could imagine! It felt like the authors never ever talked to a single 16-year old boy. Or a 16-year old anything. It felt like they were like: Oh, let's be special. Let's create a special snowflake boy. Well. Where's the point in having a boy then if readers tend to confuse him with a girl? I think it's kind of insulting how little interest was shown in getting to know how a boy thinks about the world. He didn't feel slightly relatable. The oh so stereotypical setting. You have a small, southern town. And it fulfills every. Single. Stereotype. the world has about small, southern towns in the USA. It's not like this can never work. In Under the Dome Stephen King showed that playing with stereotypes can create an awsome story. But giving the impression that this version of Gatlin should be taken seriously .... didn't work out well. It felt like a parody, but since you know it's NOT a parody it was slightly embarrassing. The length. Over 500 hundred pages for introducing a conflict, trying to solve this conflict and then.... you've got 20 pages for the showdown. Sorry but that's boring. The growing love story was more like: "Ooooh, let's hang out. No wait. Oh yes. Nooope. YES! Nope. Yes, but... No, but... Okay, let's do this." And that was it. 500 pages full of boring love conflicts, instead of focusing on the real problems, mixed up with stereotypes and situations were I was like: What...? But not in the way of: OMG, what's happening?!? I need to know what's happening next! More like: What the hell... that... doesn't make sense, why whould they... What? ... Why? ... -.-'' That leads to the next problem; the villains. They could have been so cool! Everything could have been awsome and they could have made the story so much better! But nope. They were there... but actually no one cared. "Oh, one of the main villains is at the party and destroyed it? Let's ground Lena for it even though she's totally innocent and give her the feeling she is as useless and freakish as everyone thinks she is instead of chasing the evil cousin out of this town and protect my niece and try to figure out the great evil scheme behind the curtains! I'm such a great uncle. High Five!" And the end? What the HELL happened to the villains? Lena was like **SPOILER** creating a fire circle and OH NO! I'm a powerful, dark Caster but my daughter and her mean fire circle are too strong! Let's run away guys! First let me stab my daughters boyfriend and then vanish like nothings happened. **SPOILER FINSHED* I could probably find more and more and more things I'm annoyed with but I think my list is sufficient. Here the short form: 1. Ethan is not a girl? Really? Oh... 2. A stereotype for you, and for you, AND for you! Stereotypes for everyone! 3. STOP UNLOGICAL CONFLICTS AND FOCUS ON THE REAL PROBLEMS 4. Who needs villains anyway?

Nachdem sich Ethan am Ende von "Eighteen Moons" vom Wasserturm gestürzt hat, um die Ordnung und so die Welt zu retten, steigen wir mit ihm in den vierten Band der Caster Chronicles ein. Für das grosse Finale haben sich die beiden Autorinnen schon vom Aufbau her etwas Neues einfallen lassen. So ist die ganze Geschichte in drei Bücher unterteilt. Im ersten und dritten sind wir an Ethans Seite, im mittleren Teil sehen wir, wie es Lena ergeht. Ethan und das erste Buch konnten mich gleich wieder in die Geschichte ziehen. Er wacht in seinem Zimmer auf, doch irgend etwas ist anders. Lena reagiert nicht auf sein Kelten, dafür dringt ein altbekannter Duft, eine vertraute Stimme zu ihm hoch. Als er seiner Mutter gegenüber steht, weiss er, dass er doch tot ist - oder besser gesagt in einer anderen Dimension, in der Anderwelt ist. So hat sich nicht nur der Aufbau sondern auch das Setting geändert. Leider fehlte mir das Südstaaten-Flair, das den Vorgängern einen ganz speziellen Charme verpasst hatte. Die Anderwelt war für mich nicht richtig fassbar, ich konnte sie mir nicht wirklich vorstellen. Da Ethan und Lena hier getrennte Wege gehen und beide dem anderen nachtrauern, haben Kami Garcia und Margaret Stohl eine eher düstere, zum Teil karge, ja sogar hoffnungslose Atmosphäre geschaffen. Schön fand ich, dass die meisten Charaktere auch in diesem abschliessenden Band nochmals einen Auftritt hatten. Und einmal mehr muss ich sagen, dass Amma meine ganze Sympathie bekam. Ein wirklich toller, facettenreicher Charakter, der sich in die Herzen der Leser bäckt. Nachdem bei mir mit Band 3 der Tiefpunkt erreicht war, haben die Autorinnen hier wieder etwas mehr gezaubert. Vor allem der erste Teil hat mir richtig Spass gemacht und hat sich flott weglesen lassen. Lenas Teil wies meiner Meinung nach dann wieder die eine oder andere Länge auf, doch dann wurden alle Stränge zusammengezogen, es wurde nochmals richtig eingeheizt und endete in einem schönen, schlüssigen Finale, so dass ich zufrieden auf diese Reihe zurückblicke. Fazit: Mit "Nineteen Moons" findet die unsterbliche, unheilvolle, grenzenlose und ewige Liebe von Ethan und Lena ein Ende, das mich zufrieden zurückblicken lässt. Trotz kleineren Mankos hat mich die magische Reihe im Caster-Universum sehr gut unterhalten.

Holy moly, I really didn't like this...here's why: - The audiobook came with an interview with both authors and they said that they really had wanted to write a boy's perspective and they had written the ideal boyfriend for a girl to have in high school. And it shows. The writing, the choice of words, it all felt incredibly artificial to me, all authenticity lost. Not just adult women trying to speak through a boy, but a teenage boy. The whole 'youthful' banter felt wrong and out of place. - The storyline, in my opinion, is a right mess. So, so, so many clichés come together (high school and cliques) and all the tropes in this book weren't done particularly well (being the one too different to fit in with the different crowd, irrelevant best-friend-side-kick, good vs. evil). Which is a right shame, because the magic system - although underexplained - isn't too bad! Also, general themes of loyalties towards family or friends or lovers and grief and the impact of Civil War events could've been so interesting, but this brings me to my next point: - All potential is drowned out in the kitsch of the romance. All of it. There were so many backs and forths about admitting how they felt for each other and it all founded on an instantly-falling-in-love approach and that just doesn't work for me. I would've liked to explore other relationships much more (platonic ones, rivalries, Ethan and his mom (plus all that she left behind), Ethan and his dad goddammit) or see the Civil War past more intricately interwoven with the present. Maybe the fantasy elements of this Urban fantasy were thrust on me so forcefully, yet unsubstantially that I yearned for the non-fictional components, which were evidently lacking, so much more. I picked this up a long time ago, it didn't float my boat then, so I gave it a rest. I just can't do dnf-ing, so when I got a chance to listen to the Audio, I did. I am glad this is done with, I will not finish the series, I am not invested in the least in these characters. And if I had to listen to that dreadful moon-song one more time, I would cry.

Qué libro para más extraño!!! Hubo momentos en los que simplemente no quería parar de leer pero luego hubo muchas partes dónde decía "por favor qué acabe ya!!!". Creo que tiene que ver con el inicio, que es un tanto absurdo, me parece que si se hubieran tomado un capítulo más para describir la desesperación de Ethan, hubiera estado muy feliz, no llegué a sentir eso de lo que habla Ethan, la desesperación por los sueños, la agonía y la sorpresa al conocer a Lena, no lo sentí, pero creo que al igual que en The Host, sólo lo terminas porque uno es terco al leer, no es un libro malo, pero si un tanto aburrido, me quede dormida varias veces al leer (cosa que nunca me pasa) quiero echarle la culpa al cansancio y no al libro pero bueno...
