This was just one big letdown for me. I read it in one day, but it felt like weeks. I kept catching myself scanning my shelves for what to read next, longing for the moment when I could lay hands on any other book. I feel like this novel suffered severely from Second Book Syndrome, which is unfortunate since it's not only the second, but also the last book to this series. For the majority of the plot, Jules and her companions move around the country looking for clues on how to destroy the Sorceress. Jules keeps having visions of her past lives which give her hints on how to find a weapon to do so. One of my major issues was the decreased worldbuilding. In the first book I actually liked the author's execution of her idea and how she crafted a world around it, but somehow she lost that from the first to second novel. Especially in the beginning of the book, I was very confused due to the lack of explanation as to what the hell was actually happening. Jules and Caro have this violent encounter, weird shit is happening and no one bothers to tell me why or how. I still don't get how this whole heart-stealing-and-eating-stones-thing worked back in the day. And what happened to Amma's little sister, where she at? I feel like I'm repeating myself in every review I write, but the romance in this book was just so, so stupid. So, out of nowhere, Jules is in love with this other dude now? M'kay. One thing I do have to give the author credit for is her writing, which really is beautiful. I'm not usually emotional while reading, but the ending made me tear up. I also loved the prologue. With more detailed storytelling, this could have been a great finale.

I‘d more likely give it a 3.5 / 5 It wasnt bad, but it wasn’t mesmerising as well. I‘d say it was just… rather basic? I loved the concept of the book, blood being used as currency but other than in the first book this concept got kind of lost in the second part. The ending was almost predictable. Just with one little „twist“

ALTER FALTER.
