So many painful moments, especially with people speaking their mind to Valkyrie. You’re right, you deserve better and I cried for like 3 chapters straight. Fletcher, bestie, I am so sorry The parallels and themes between Val and Skul are getting more and more intricate. I want to dissect it under a microscope grrrr “Well done, Val, you share the emotional range of a dead man.”

I really enjoyed this book. Those plot twists are always so unexpected and Skulduggery's secret past, that is uncovered, only made me go: ???! Valkyie's inner darkness becomes more prominent and, oh god, the finale of the whole series is going to be amazing! I enjoyed the climax of this book immensely already. Something to note is also Valkyrie's relationship(s) in this book. By now she is sixteen and has a huge ego, which makes her a magnet for boys. In contrast to romance or other genres, though, she has little drama that never distracts from the main plot and is still entertaining. I really like that everything just fits in the overall story. At first, I experienced Valkyrie as a sort of self-insert character for young girls, a role model. After all, she does seem a little too perfekt. Now, though? She is driven from inner conflicts and her development seems to promise a lot more suspense!

"Then why put labels on ourselves? That's a job for a psyichiatrist. We punch people, Valkyrie. That's who we are. Embrace your inner lunatic. Fun times guaranteed." It's been a while that I've struggled so much to decide for one quote. This book is full of great quotes that all deserve to head this review and to be read. Glorifying death is not a religion. It's a sickness. I loved this book. It's funny, it's thrilling, it's magical and it has one of the major reveals of the series on its pages. You might argue that Valkyrie is arrogant and bitchy in this one (and you would be right...) but I still enjoyed it immensly. Derek Landy has a way with bickering that I haven't seen matched anywhere. I need more right now, I just wanna continue the reread... Plus, the more time I spend rereading this, the more I get on the "I ship Skulduggery and Valkyrie"- train. There is so much hidden in the way they treat each other (which I just might be reading into those line because I'm looking for it) and I think it's glorious. Although I never expect it to happen and I love them just as much as friends and partners.
