Description

One of them has a plan. The other is clueless. Together they will discover what love really is about.Guarded and studious, sixteen-year-old aspiring actor Zak favours being alone above all else… Except perhaps Alberto, the Italian god from Drama Club, with whom he’s secretly in love. When their drama teacher takes the club to the French countryside to shoot a short film, Zak decides to temporarily hang his introvert hat and joins the party, confident Alberto will be cast as his love interest.Only… By accident or by mistake, the beloved — and most likely overrated — star football player Eric is chosen to play Alberto’s part. But it cannot be! Zak hates everything about Eric. For starters, he’s not Alberto. Besides, he’s a straight jock, an impossible flirt who takes nothing seriously, and especially not Zak’s attempts to keep him at a distance. If he wants to be seen as the professional actor he always claimed to be, and still get the chance to impress Alberto, Zak must set aside his resentment and put up with Eric and his boisterous ways, at least until filming is over. But as time goes by, stuck in the middle of nowhere with the most popular boy at school, Zak quickly sees his opinion of Eric shift from sworn enemy to endearing new friend, and soon his feelings for him threaten to grow into something far more dangerous. His vulnerable and inexperienced heart only a small kiss away from being shattered, Zak will have to ask himself the right questions and undergo significant changes if he hopes to obtain true love at last.A story about friendship, self-awareness and the dangers of appearances, You're The One for Me is the second instalment in the Colette International Series, where students from an international high school in Paris navigate their tumultuous love lives. Though it isn't necessary to have read the first volume beforehand, it's still recommended to get the full reading experience. Warning: this novel is 545 pages long! Fasten your seat belt, the road will be a bumpy one.

The potential was there, but it was just soo boring

Really sad I have to rate it this low, but a book being boring is worse for me than it just being "bad". This wasn't a bad book. It could have been a really good book if it just had been AT LEAST 200 pages shorter. I really liked the first book in this series, it was perfect at around 290 pages. So, yeah, it's a shame since the couple was actually cute, and I liked the setting. We follow the story through Zak's eyes, who wants to be actor. He is in the drama club, which wants to shoot a short film for two weeks in the holidays. Zak also has a huge crush on Alberto, who is also in the club, and hopes they can both get the two main roles, so Alberto will fall in love with him while filming (it's a gay movie with a kiss scene), but then the surprisingly talented football player Eric, who only went with them as a penalty, gets the role... I really liked the setting, near a lake (or pond), and the friendships that formed. Camille and Arthur are great side characters. But that was basically all I liked (well, the chemistry between the main characters was also nice, but it took forever). The other major problem besides the unnecessary length was Zak's crush on Alberto, omg. He was acting like a middle schooler instead of a 16 years old. It was soo annoying and delusional 😩 He was constantly going on about how great Alberto was. A literal God in a human body, too perfect to be true. Like boy, be for real, you haven't even talked to him yet!! The amount of cringe I had to suffer... and the book is aware of that, even pokes fun at his delusions, but that still doesn't make it enjoyable for me. The main character could have been relatable, as a total nerd and all, but that crush just annoyed me too much 🙃 The whole Alberto storyline was just unnecessary. A little crush for a bit of drama, sure, but not whatever that was. Also because Alberto is going to be the main character of the next book (which I still kinda want to read), but this whole thing just made me mad at both of them! Especially around the end. That could all have been avoided. I'd actually liked it if it had ended at the excursion, with an epilog at home. The only moment I actually felt some excitement while reading was their second kiss. I know this author can write tension, I've seen it in the first one, so I was sad at what we could have had. Best chapter besides that and the general atmosphere with the friend group was the one with the whiteboard. That was kinda funny. Also, Eric (most of the time), but he only appeared at around page 70, and wasn't around much in another part near the end, which was also annoying. All in all, just a huge disappointment of wasted potential. Still don't regret reading it for those little moments I did enjoy, and also cause I want to read the next one in this series, and you can't just skip one. Well, you technically can, but I wouldn't. Michael, the main character from the first one, actually played a bigger role here, and Alberto will be the main character of the next one, so I wouldn't skip this one. I hope this was just an exception, and the next one will be good again. It will certainly be more dark/dramatic, which is something I like, so let's see (I'll wait for a sale though).
