About the book

Susan Dennard returns with a follow up to New York Times bestselling novel Truthwitch.

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak―which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her―yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge―especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

4.5 stars. I really loved this book. I think it's a great sequel to Truthwitch. The plot was exciting and I loved the fact that all the characters face different struggles, but in the same time all of it is overall connected to the same source. I really enjoyed the character developments and I especially liked to get to know Vivia, because it totally caught me by surprise how much I love her. Another thing that I loved about this book are different settings. The world building has much improved and we get to know so much more about this fascinating world and the different places and cultures. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I had to take 0.5 star away because of certain things between characters and some foreshadowing to possible developments, but I don't want to go into it because I don't want to spoil anybody.

I really loved getting back into the story/world and seeing the charakters again. The story always kept me reading but there are definetly more questions then answers in this book. Sadly some scenes felt a little rushed/had some mental leaps were I personally needed a moment to catch up, thats why I didn't love Windwitch as much as Truthwitch.
