Ich hatte eine richtig gute Zeit mit dem Buch. Hab die prämisse sehr geliebt, Teenager abgeschottet in einem geheimnisvollen Anwesen mit einer Lehrerin die mysteriöse Absichten hat. Leider hatte es für mich auch im Vergleich zu anderen Dark academia Büchern irgendwie keinen richtigen roten Faden. Das „warum?“ wurde meiner Meinung nach zu wenig behandelt. Dafür ging’s im Mittelteil viel um die Romance die dieses Buch gar nicht nötig hatte. Hätte mir so gewünscht mehr über die Beweggründe einzelner Charaktere zu erfahren. So hatte das Buch keinen Plottwist (weil man direkt zu Beginn erfährt, was passiert) und die Tiefe hat gefehlt. Ich würde es aber trotzdem als Einstieg in Dark Academia empfehlen. Aber da ist Luft nach oben!
Atmosphärischer Thriller - perfekt für die düstere Jahreszeit 🍁
Es hat Spaß gemacht das Buch zu lesen und man wollte durchweg mehr über die Charaktere und das Ende erfahren. Das Buch hat einige interessante Themen behandelt. Es ist aber ziemlich Character driven was man wissen und mögen sollte. Die Charaktere hatten alle ihr Päckchen zu tragen, wobei ich finde dass diese den Großteil ihrer Persönlichkeiten ausgemacht haben. Den Romance Aspekt hätte ich persönlich nicht gebraucht. Irgendwie war mir das zu oberflächlich und der Konflikt zu schnell gelöst. Das Setting und die Atmosphäre fand ich dafür sehr passend. Vor allem das Haus in dem die Charaktere vorübergehend gewohnt haben war sehr cool. Es gab einen achteckigen Raum, Geheimgänge und verschlossene Räume. Sehr passend zur düsteren Jahreszeit!

It's written from the POV of Effy, the "sad-sack orphan" and Arlo, the arrogant Nerd, who's always talking too much, but would do anything to get Effy back... While being haunted by his past (But don't hate him, he's such a pookie ilhsm!!) Effy and Arlo, along with six other students from a fancy boarding school get to spend three weeks in a creative writing workshop with the one and only Meredith Graffam. Only gradually do they realize that something is not at all as it should be. But then it's already too late....
