I'm currently writing my master's thesis about Spielberg's West Side Story so that's the only reason I picked up this book. It was definitely interesting and I read the entirety of it in one sitting. However, I do think that there's a lack of information, at least for the bits I'm focussing on in my thesis. Oftentimes, it is mentioned that Kushner wrote backstories about each and every character and handed those stories to the actors. I would have LOVED to read more about them to understand why they're doing what they're doing, specifically with Bernardo signing "La Borinqueña." Why does he know the lyrics? I guess I'll never know...
