Verum (The Nocte Trilogy, Band 2)

i'll be honest here: i didn't intend to give this any stars at all. the characters annoyed me; the storyline bored me. i didn't like dare and i didn't like calla and i didn't like the relationship between them because it was all about them; it was all about "he is mine" and whatnot. basically, the first 90% i had to keep going because i wanted to know why this book's gotten so many really good reviews but it took me five days, even though it's not even 300 pages. two stars for the rather awesome ending and huge plot twist - i didn't see it coming.

I'm utterly speachless. Shocked to the core, full of emotions. I want to scream and cry and laugh hysterically. Rocking back and forth in a dark corner ... it's too much to handle. I seriously don't know what to do with myself right now. I haven't read anything else by Courtney Cole before but now after finishing NOCTE I consider doing it. Her writing style is great and I loved how she described everything, she used Latin words, her characters are amazing, the story is unique and so, so captivating and fascinating. I could fangirl some more but I guess you get the idea! I don't want to say too much and if I'm honest I don't really know what to write. NOCTE is a book you have to read without knowing too much. It's dark, twisted, mysterious and at times confusing ... but in a good way! You'll be frustrated, heartbroken and terrified but it's so worth it, believe me. Calla is a great character! You experience the whole story out of her POV and gladly she doesn't even annoy you - at least I wasn't annoyed. Her actions were all plausible and I guess in these situations I would have reacted the same ... or maybe not. I don't think I'd be that strong. She had to go through so many hard times and I admire her a lot. She's amazing! "I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day." Dare DuBray. Oh lord. Let me swoon and sob in his arms because he's so perfect. I instantly liked him and was drawn to him even though he's mysterious and has secrets. Everyone has secrets, right? He's frustrating and confusing but you can't get away from him. Not only because he's handsome and beautiful but also because he's the one thing that keeps you sane when everything around you gets crazy. I just loved him a lot. Most of the times I also wanted to punch him but then again hug him tight. It was very emotional. "It's like I'm a planet and he's my axis ... or my sun." I'm not going to say anything else about the rest ... just discover it on your own! The story is absolutely perfect. I couldn't get enough of it and now I'm desperately waiting for the second book. The last few chapters ripped my heart to pieces. Tears streaming down my face, my heart was throbbing so hard, I thought it's going to explode any second and then ... it ends. Just nope, no, no, no, no. I can't wait till February for the second book. I NEED IT NOW! 100% recommend ... just give it a try, it's worth a read! :) Also I'm desperate to discuss everything.
