But Dylan is still missing—and no trace of her, dead or alive, has been discovered.
Were the climbers murdered? Did they succumb to cannibalism? Or are their impossible bodies the work of an even more sinister force?
This dread-inducing debut builds to a bloodcurdling climax, and will leave you shocked by the final twist.

Story: Das hier soll Dylans großer Durchbruch werden. Ihr Freund Clay, ein Geologiestudent, hat eine unberührte Felswand tief in der Wildnis von Kentucky entdeckt – und sie wird die erste Person sein, die sie erklimmt. Gemeinsam mit Clay, seiner Forschungsassistentin Sylvia und Dylans Freund Luke will sie ihren Erfolg auf Instagram dokumentieren und sich endgültig als aufstrebender Star im Klettersport etablieren. Sieben Monate später werden drei Leichen in den Bäumen nahe einer Straße entdeckt. This wasn't necessarily super bad, but not at all Horror. I've been looking for something spooky I could read in autumn that would make me and my energy bill regret reading it before bed. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. I should stop listening to strangers' opinion on the internet before looking the book up. This wasn't Horror - if it all, maybe gore, but not very good one. The thriller elements where also lame. The supernatural elements didn't make much sense and were far from scary. The plot had some interesting points but didn't come together at the end and left a lot of potential behind. Almost nothing happened and I think I got a tiny bit creeped out twice for a total of approximately 40 seconds. Additionally, I don't know exactly what that writing style was. A very bloomy one, but it mostly felt inappropriate, because no matter what happened - introductions, foreshadowing, full on murder - it described everything in metaphors or clunky similies. All the time. To the point that every time something crucial, faster paced was happening, I got lost and had to reread the paragraph two to three times to figure out what's actually going on. I don't want to come directly at the author, but for someone who owns a bookstore that only sells horror, this was really, really weak. So I will continue my search for a nightmare to fall asleep to and let you know when I find something worth my time.
Ich würde sagen, dass das Buch am Ende eine ganz solide Leseerfahrung war. Die ersten ca 60 Prozent waren unheimlich stark und gruselig – gerade den Prolog fand ich richtig toll und auch die Momente, in denen wir noch nicht wussten, was vor sich geht. Es wurde eine unglaublich gute Spannungskurve mit solidem Schreibstil aufgebaut. Auch die Charaktere warne okay, wenn auch nicht besonders – typische Personen im Horrorgenre eben. Ich will gar nicht zu viel zur Handlung sagen, da ich sonst am Spoilern bin, aber mich hat die Auflösung einfach ein wenig gelangweilt. Ich hätte mir eine andere Herangehensweise gewünscht, da ich die Horrorthematik, die aufgegriffen wurde, nicht ganz so mag. Dieses Genre im Horrorbereich langweilt mich meist einfach, da alles sehr vorhersehbar ist. Und ja, sobald man wusste, was da im „Wretched Valley“ vor sich geht, war es auch sehr vorhersehbar. Schade. Was ein Review ... sorry, bin noch ein wenig durch den Wind und vllt auch enttäuscht :’D
