Man muss schon Durchhaltevermögen besitzen, um sich durch fast 1000 Seiten zu lesen. Dafür entwickelt das Buch einen Sog, dem man sich schwer entziehen kann. Kaum eine der handelnden Personen ist durchweg sympathisch. Das Leben im Krieg ist auch in den USA anstrengend und jeder hat seine eigenen Ambitionen, Beziehungen und Leichen im Keller. Der Blick auf die amerikanische Geschichte, den Ellroys Bücher vermitteln ist schonungslos und bisweilen grausam. Trotzdem werde ich hoffentlich auch den 3. Band der Trilogie in Angriff nehmen.
