I think that was the best dark academia book I’ve ever read.

I fell in love with this book the second I unpacked my Fairyloot edition, but what’s written inside is not less perfect than what is on the outside. At this point: read the trigger warnings. This book is brutal and dark, and some descriptions are very graphic. Sarais story was amazingly well written. I loved her as a main character with all her mysteries and trauma that was step by step unveiled. She’s ambitious, clever and I constantly felt involved in her story. Sometimes even a bit too much emotionally… And Kadra as the main male character was not just the usual morally grey guy (morally black might be more suitable first of all) but a very detailed written man that knew what he wanted and was ready to do literally everything to get there. The tension between the two of them was soooo good oh my god I loved it. The whole story is packed with gruesome details, unexpected turns of events and betrayal I wouldn’t have seen coming to be honest. Also the fantasy world that was inspired by Ancient Rome was very interesting and nicely described. I had no trouble whatsoever to understand the world. I absolutely recommend this book if you love dark academia and you’re not afraid of a book being very dark. I’ll absolutely will keep a look out for more books of this author to come.
