The Nightfoots control the precious sevite that fuels interplanetary travel through three star systems. And someone is sure to pay handsomely for anything that could break their hold.
Of course, anything valuable is also dangerous. The Kindom, the ruling power of the three star systems, is inextricably tied up in the Nightfoots' monopoly - and they can't afford to let Jun expose the truth. They task two of their most brutal clerics with hunting her down: preternaturally stoic Chono, and brilliant hothead Esek, who also happens to be the heir to the Nightfoot empire.
But Chono and Esek are haunted in turn by a figure from their shared past, known only as Six. What Six truly wants is anyone's guess. And the closer they get to finding Jun, the surer Chono is that Six is manipulating them all - and that they are heading for a bloody confrontation that no one will survive unscathed.

Ich war auf dieses Buch nicht vorbereitet, wusste ich doch gar nicht, dass ich das hätte sein müssen. Oh Gott, was war das bitte?! Was für ein intergalaktisches Meisterwerk hab ich da gelesen? Help. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich die richtigen Worte finden kann, denn ich bin einfach noch ein wenig sprachlos. Am Anfang war es tatsächlich ein wenig schwierig den verschiedenen Erzählperspektiven zu folgen (und bei den Jahreszahlen mitzudenken) und alles richtig zu begreifen, aber nach den ersten Kapiteln war ich komplett in der Welt drin. (Auch wenn ich zwischendrin immer wieder schauen musste, was in welchem Jahr passiert ist.) Ich fand die politischen Verstrickungen (und das System an sich) sehr faszinierend, grausam und überzeugend. Bethany Jacobs hat ihre Welt/Idee unglaublich gut verkauft und für mich war alles logisch und ich konnte mir auch alles erklären. Nichts wirkte an den Haaren herbeigezogen und war in so vielen Bereichen einfach verdammt realistisch und auf unsere Welt übertragbar. Besonders cool finde ich ja, dass man sich seine Pronomen selbst aussuchen und so oft wechseln kann, wie man will. Liebe dafür /D Die Hauptcharaktere waren fantastisch! Vor allem die Geschichte rund um Chono, Esek und Six hat mich in ihren Bann gezogen und ich hatte so oft Herzklopfen, dass ich meinen Kindle nur noch vor Aufregung geschüttelt habe. (Später dann auch wegen Liis und Jun.) Wahrscheinlich sind Six und Esek aktuell meine Lieblinge und ich bin gespannt und traue den Ereignissen in Band eins noch nicht so wirklich. Ich hoffe, da kommt noch mehr! Starkes Buch mit superstarken Charakteren und einer sehr verworrenen, grausamen und spannenden Geschichte. Absolute Empfehlung von meiner Seite aus. <3
