Mein erstes Buch von China Mieville auf Englisch. Auf Deutsch wurde der Titel in zwei Teile geteilt, aber keines davon ist mehr lieferbar. Aufgrund des Umfangs des Werkes verstehe ich die Entscheidung jedoch; auch mir war es fast ein wenig zu viel (das kann aber auch an der Sprachbarriere liegen). Meine Befürchtungen, dass ich gar nichts verstehen werde, bewahrheitete sich jedoch nicht. Erneut faszinierte mich das World-Building und Mievilles Vorstellungskraft. Eine fremde, phantastische Welt tut sich für uns auf und den Vorgänger müssen wir auch nicht zwingend kennen, um The Scar lesen zu können. Wir müssen aber bereit sein, in eine völlig abstrakte und andersartige Realität entführt zu werden. Entführung ist überhaupt ein gutes Stichwort, denn damit fängt hier alles an. Und schon befinden wir uns auf einer unglaublichen Insel, die ihresgleichen sucht. Dabei geht es um Wahrheit, Verpflichtung und Heimat. Um Rebellion, Politik und Lügen. Ein Ereignis jagt das nächste, dazwischen gibt es ruhige Stellen. Es wird auch mal blutig und nicht immer ist alles so, wie es scheint...
