Von meinem Vater habe ich eine gewisse Faszination für Kuba geerbt. Über die Insel selbst habe ich schon ein paar Bücher gelesen, aber dieses Buch war das erste Mal, dass ich mich näher mit Che Guevara befasst habe. Das Tagebuch war eine kleine positive Überraschung für mich. Ich hätte nicht mit Guevaras Schreibstil gerechnet. Guevara beweist einen guten Spürsinn für Situationen und Menschen, erzählt aber auch mit Humor und Witz. Man spürt seine Jugend, seinen Drang nach Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit. Dies macht dieses Buch so faszinierend. Man ist nahe dabei, wenn die jungen Männer die unterschiedlichsten Abenteuer erleben, hungern, neue und alte Freunde finden und oftmals nur haarscharf an einem grossen Unglück vorbeirasen. Man kann Ches Tagebücher aus unterschiedlichsten Gründen lesen. Reisevorbereitung. Interesse an Che himself. Einblick in die Geschichte Kubas. Freude an Reiseberichten. Alles dies wird einem geboten.
