Description

Once upon a time, in an alleyway in the slums of the City Of Lockes, a young and somewhat lonely boy named Sam Haversford turns a group of teenage douchebags into stone completely by accident. Of course, this catches the attention of a higher power, and Sam’s pulled from the only world he knows to become an apprentice to the King's Wizard, Morgan of Shadows. When Sam’s fourteen, he enters the Dark Woods and returns with Gary, the hornless gay unicorn, and a half-giant named Tiggy, earning the moniker Sam of Wilds. At fifteen, Sam learns what love truly is when a new knight arrives at the castle―Knight Ryan Foxheart, the dreamiest dream to have ever been dreamed. Naturally, it all goes to hell when Ryan dates the reprehensible Prince Justin, Sam can't control his magic, a sexually aggressive dragon kidnaps the prince, and the King sends them on an epic quest to save Ryan's boyfriend, all while Sam falls more in love with someone he can never have. Or so he thinks.

Really, this book may have ruined me for all the other books out there (at least for a day or two). For me this is a second chance book. I tried to read it about a year ago and only to put it away again after the first few pages. I thought it was silly and ridicules. But I gave it another try and I am glad it did. This book has everything I was looking for, an exciting story about a gay wizard on a quest, a touching love story including a hot knight and a lot of extraordinary humour. And a gay unicorn that radiates glitter. But most of all it is really well written, the way the author plays with language and words is really exceptional. Just buy it, you won't regret it.

This was one of the most hilarious books I've ever read. Yes the humor was a "little" (read: a lot) raunchy sometimes but somehow it all fit together perfectly. Loved it.

I think that T.J. Klue (or should I rather call him Master of Sass?) had a lot of fun with his characters while writing this book. The conversations were really funny - and often awkward, but still funny. However, I also think that somehow he didn't manage to create the depth for his characters that he aimed for. Or maybe I just didn't feel it. Moreover, while having fun with the banter, I sometimes got the feeling that the author lost sight of his plot - of which there is remarkably little, since half of the book consists of dialogues and lengthy descriptions of feelings. Don't get me wrong, this book was fun. But it could've been so much more than just fun.
