Der zweite Band der Jack Taylor Reihe kommt überraschend daher. Jack ist aus London zurück. Kämpft mit sich und dem Alkohol und den Drogen. Bekommt gleich zwei neue Aufträge und schlittert von einem zum nächsten Fettnäpfchen und sagen er ist vom Pech verfolgt ist noch harmlos ausgedrückt. Und er liest und erzählt viel über Bücher. Die meisten sagten mir nichts aber dieser bibliophile Tatsch verleiht dem Buch das gewisse etwas und nimmt viel von der Düsternis. Zu sage es ist spannend ist das falsche Wort aber doch sind die Fälle, Jack und seine unzähligen Probleme eine Mischung die dem Buch das gewisse etwas verleihen, was mir dieses Mal echt gut gefallen hat. Nachdem Band 1 eher langweilig war. Es hat sich gelohnt der Reihe noch eine zweite Chance zu geben.
Ich bin mit hohen Erwartungen an das Buch ran gegangen und diese konnten anscheinend nur enttäuscht werden. Ich hatte bereits die TV-Serie gesehen und hatte stark auf eine ähnliche Handlung gebaut. Aber das Buch ist an einigen Punkte nicht mit der Serie zu vergleichen und ich bin sehr sicher, wenn ich nicht bereits geprägt wäre durch das Bild in meinem Kopf, dann hätte mir das Buch besser gefallen. Sprachlich und vom Stil ist das Buch sehr extravagant, das muss man mögen, damit muss man klar kommen. Ich brauchte etwas Zeit um mich einzufinden, gewöhnte mich dann aber schnell daran. Es wird nicht viel Wert auf den Kriminalfall an sich gelegt. Die Charakter Darstellung, Entwicklung das Kennenlernen von der Figur Jack Taylor steht klar im Vordergrund. Und er ist im Großen und Ganzen keine Figur der man so einfach Sympathie entgegen bringen kann. Eine wirkliche Charakterfigur. Der Schauplatz Galway hat mir natürlich gut gefallen. Ich war schon zwei Mal dort und habe alle Handlungsschauplätze wieder erkannt und mich sehr wohl gefühlt. Ich vergebe dennoch nur 3 Sterne. Und schau mal wie mir der nächste Band der Reihe gefällt.
