📚 „Attika – Die Schlacht von Marathon“ von Conn Iggulden hat mich wirklich überrascht. Natürlich kennt man die Geschichte des Marathonlaufs und den berühmten Boten, der nach seinem Lauf tot zusammenbrach. Aber wie viel politische Spannung, Kriegsvorbereitung und Machtkampf tatsächlich hinter dieser historischen Schlacht steckt, war mir vorher überhaupt nicht bewusst. Conn Iggulden erzählt von den Persern, die mit riesigen Armeen gegen Griechenland ziehen, von Intrigen, Angst, Strategie und davon, wie sich die griechischen Stadtstaaten auf einen Kampf vorbereiten, der Geschichte schreiben wird. Besonders spannend fand ich, wie viele Namen und Figuren mir plötzlich bekannt vorkamen, obwohl ich sie nie bewusst mit der Schlacht von Marathon verbunden hätte. Das Ganze liest sich unglaublich kurzweilig und spannend. Ich weiß natürlich nicht, wie historisch exakt alles am Ende wirklich ist — nach so vielen Jahrhunderten verschwimmen Überlieferungen vermutlich ohnehin ein Stück weit — aber als historischer Roman funktioniert das Buch für mich hervorragend. Vor allem die Mischung aus historischen Hintergründen, militärischer Spannung und persönlichen Schicksalen hat mir richtig Spaß gemacht.
