Description

Vienna Stratton knew she only had herself to blame. You didn’t let yourself become indebted to a man like Dane Davenport, no matter how badly you needed his help. As his personal assistant, she was very aware that the globally successful CEO was ruthless and unforgiving. Of course, if she’d known he’d request that she be his wife for twelve months, she’d have hesitated in accepting his help. Because what she’d learned from Dane was that the devil wasn’t ugly and terrorising. He was seductive and captivating. He hummed with whispers of temptation – the temptation to sin and surrender, to let him brand and possess you. He awakened every need and fantasy you had.He could even make you love him.

I desperately want to give this the five stars. This book made me giggle and scream and I was on a constant high. I’m a sucker for an arranged marriage between rich people. Or a CEO and his PA. Hence my absolute love for Terms and Conditions. And since this book is quite similar, I think it’s fair to compare some aspects. I really had a fun time reading this book. It is written in an easily flowing way and you can just enjoy. Vienna and Dane are adorable and their interactions never ceased to leave a grin on my face. I wished sometimes for a bit more tension but well. It is what it is. And even though the plot itself isn’t the most original story [like I said, it’s pretty similar to Terms and Conditions for example], it doesn’t imply it’s a bad thing. My motto is: why change a formula that works? And let me tell you this formula more than works. At least for me. And a big plus this book gets, is that miscommunication was done in a way that made sense. And that means: never unnecessarily dragged on or bigger than necessary. Yes there were moments the opportunity for a big conflict due to miscommunication was there. But the author never gave Vienna the chance to run out on a conflict. Dane always got her to communicate and explain himself. And I am beyond grateful for that. Another plus is the father with dissociative identity disorder and how that illness was portrayed throughout the book. It got its reasonable and needed attention but was never made into a big deal. It was explained and you get an insight about the illness but not used as a plot device. So even though I was highly entertained and loved the characters and the story and all… I have to criticize some aspects. They didn’t cause me to not like the book or get overly annoyed by it. But I could have happily lived without them. 1. Some characters, and with saying some I mean, that I have two very specific characters in mind, were a tad too annoying for me. And their relationship, probably supposed to be a funny running gag, was somehow more than toxic. So yeah could have lived without them or their constant weird fights. I am able to overlook this. It’s a slight annoyance but nothing to big. But 2. the mass of drama. Drama of the past and on page drama. There was simply too much. Too many side stories. We have two main characters with a more than traumatic past. And even though this was never that much of a deal on page. It’s still there. But a totally fucked up past wasn’t enough. We get petty sibling drama. Jealous ex‘es who want them back. Some more family drama about trust funds. More jealous ex‘es and mean in-laws. ITS TOO MUCH. One of those would have sufficed as a ongoing obstacle with a grand finale twist. But no, the author chose to constantly give us another drama. Most of those plotlines continued parallel to another and the second one was resolved or seemed resolved - another one appeared. I don’t want to go on and deeper into this but just let me say: it was too much drama and too many problem parties involved in this story for a 300 pages book. So I’m conflicted how to rate this now. On one hand I adored the book. It was funny IT WAS HOT. I liked it. But if I compare it to a quite similar book in many aspects [Terms and Conditions], which was a flawless book in my eyes…. I can’t simply overlook the flaws in this one for the comfort enjoyment factor. It wouldn’t be fair. So even though I would happily recommend this book to anyone in need of a fluffy funny and sexy romance, it’s not a five star. And sadly, summing up all the minor things I dislike…. not a four star either? I guess? IM DEEPLY CONFLICTED. Lets settle with a nice 3.5? 3.75? I don’t know just read it and tell me. I just needed more at some points. AND WAY LESS ON OTHERS. 3.5
