Kleine nette Geschichte über ein 12-jähriges Mädchen welches sich in ihrer vorbestimmten Rolle nicht wohlfühlt und die Natur für sich entdeckt.
Die Geschichte spielt Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts - genauer gesagt 1899. Die 12-jährige Protagonistin Calpurnia entdeckt mithilfe ihres Großvaters die Natur auf wissenschaftlicher Ebene und das als Mädchen zu der Zeit. Mir gefiel der Bezug zu Charles Darwin sehr gut. Jedes Kapitel fing mit einem Zitat aus "Die Entstehung der Arten" an, aber ich bin auch Biologin und eh von Darwins Arbeit begeistert. Ich hatte Calpurnia schnell in mein Herz geschlossen, sie ist sehr klug, witzig, neugierig und sich vielem bewusst. Ihre Ängste und Sorgen konnte ich nachvollziehen, für mich als Erwachsene hatten sie aber nicht mehr die große Relevanz und daher fiel es mir zeitweise schwer weiterzulesen. Wäre ich noch ein 12-jähriges Mädchen, hätte ich das Buch wahrscheinlich verschlungen. Ich bin mir noch nicht sicher ob ich den zweiten Band lesen möchte. Für Kinder in dem Alter absolut empfehlenswert und für Erwachsene, wenn man Mal etwas leichteres unaufregendes lesen möchte
