Description
In 1538, England’s bloody power struggle between crown and cross threatens to tear the country apart. As she completes the puzzle in the dungeon of a twelfth-century Belgian fortress, Joanna realizes the life of Henry VIII as well as the future of Christendom are in her hands—hands that must someday hold the chalice that lies at the center of these deadly prophecies.

4 Sterne = sehr gut, würde ich weiter empfehlen Nachdem der erste Band der Joanna Stafford Reihe eher ein Spannungsroman war und auf dem Cover sogar als "historischer Thriller" beworben wurde, handelt es sich hier bei dem zweiten Band der Reihe eher um einen "normalen" historischen Roman. Es gibt zwar spannende Elemente, aber es kommen hier jetzt auch romantische Elemente hinzu und die politischen Intrigen nehmen eine noch größere Rolle ein, als schon im ersten Band. Trotz der romantischen Elemente haben wir hier aber bei weitem keine "Liebesschnulze". Politische Zusammenhänge, Intrigen bei Hofe und die Suche nach einer Prophezeiung stehen hier eindeutig im Vordergrund. Unsere Protagonistin Joanna hat eine deutliche Entwicklung durchgemacht. Im ersten Band war sie noch eine durch und durch fromme, mutige, besonnene und kluge Frau. Im zweiten Band wird sie deutlich waghalsiger und forscher und teilweise auch etwas naiv, da sie sich nun in vielen Situationen wiederfindet, die außerhalb ihres gewohnten sittsamen Klosterlebens stattfinden. Ich finde die Autorin hat ein absolutes Talent dafür die nonverbale Kommunikation in Dialogen rüberzubringen. Mit der Beschreibung der Gestik, Mimik und Stimmung im Raum kann man sich die Charaktere noch besser vorstellen und die Stimmung eines Gesprächs regelrecht spüren. Zum Ende hin hatte das Buch für mich ein paar Längen, aber die waren auch immer schnell wieder vorbei und dann passierte wieder was spannendes. Die Handlungen hatte wieder viele Wendungen, die nicht vorhersehbar waren. Das Ende kam dann allerdings etwas plötzlich. Insgesamt hat mir der zweite Band der Reihe aber auch wieder sehr gut gefallen.
