Description

The thirteenth mystery for Richard Jury finds the detective investigating the murder of two women in the Lincolnshire fens. Both victims are connected to the wealthy owner of the Fengate estate: one a kitchen maid, and the other, the owner's ex-wife. But Jury has more at stake than just catching a killer, as the prime suspect is a woman who's presence in his life is becoming meaningful in a way he can't explain....

Loved this book! Makes me want to curl up on the sofa with a "cuppa" and read more Martha Grimes

Slow paced and set in the English countryside. What's not to like? Sometimes, I was confused when a phone was used (at least it was only landlines and no cell phones). That's how "old" this book felt to me. It is some kind of really early cosy crime from back in the day when that term wasn't even invented yet. This was, I think, number 14 in the "Richard Jury" series, and I had never read any of the others before. Yes, there will be some spoilers (name an inspector in a series whose love interest hasn't died/got killed), but that didn't really matter to me. I liked the characters of Jury and Melrose Plant and all of the quirky villagers of Long Piddleton (just the name cracks me up), and I would definitely want to learn more about them! I will raid my mum's book shelf for more of these as I feel it could be difficult getting hold of them (at least the old ones) otherwise.

Reread. Typischer Band der Reihe mit Schmunzelpotential. Aufklärung umständlich.
