An Instant Indie Bestseller!

Sleeping Beauty meets Indiana Jones in this thrilling fairytale retelling for fans of Sorcery of Thorns and The Cruel Prince.

Fi is a bookish treasure hunter with a knack for ruins and riddles, who definitely doesn’t believe in true love.

Shane is a tough-as-dirt girl warrior from the north who likes cracking skulls, pretty girls, and doing things her own way.

Briar Rose is a prince under a sleeping curse, who’s been waiting a hundred years for the kiss that will wake him.

Cursed princes are nothing but ancient history to Fi—until she pricks her finger on a bone spindle while exploring a long-lost ruin. Now she’s stuck with the spirit of Briar Rose until she and Shane can break the century-old curse on his kingdom.

Dark magic, Witch Hunters, and bad exes all stand in her way—not to mention a mysterious witch who might wind up stealing Shane’s heart, along with whatever else she’s after. But nothing scares Fi more than the possibility of falling in love with Briar Rose.

Set in a lush world inspired by beloved fairytales, The Bone Spindle is a fast-paced young adult fantasy full of adventure, romance, found family, and snark.

I loved this book so much! "The Bone Spindle" by Leslie Vedder is a retelling of The Sleeping Beauty. Only in this story, it's not the princess who falls into a 100-year sleep and has to be rescued by the prince: Fi is a treasure hunter and sets off with her new partner Shane to an old ruin. There they find something special and now Fi is bound to the prince Briar Rose by a magical bond, but he’s under a powerful curse and has been sleeping the last 100 years. Will she be able to save him... ________________ Spoiler ________________ At the beginning, I was a little sceptical as to whether I would really like the book. But it was clear to me right after the first or second chapter that this was going to be one of my favourite books. I liked Fi from the very first moment: her curious but intelligent nature and her courage won me over straight away. I also loved how she grew during this story. And against all odds I actually really liked her "relationship" with Briar Rose, even though I was a bit critical of the whole thing at the beginning, just like Fi herself (because of the destiny thing). Shane was really my favourite in this book. I really loved her character! Her past as the heir to the "War King" did surprise me a bit, though, and I'm curious to see if there will be anything more about her twin in one of the next two parts, or if he will even appear in person. I'm also curious to see what else will happen between her and Red :) Briar Rose is a very interesting character in my opinion. It seems as if he is very much in love with Fi. He also seems like a very kind-hearted person. But the dark magic thing and his loss of control over it worries me a little. I really hope he stays a "good" character, even if just for the sake of Fi. (But it seems like Shane is taking care of that quite well after all :)).

The Bone Spindle is a YA fantasy Sleeping Beauty retelling, about treasure hunter Fi and huntswoman Shane. This book has got three different perspectives it is written in, Fi, Shane and Briar Rose, which I found really interesting as you got to see the partnership between Fi and Shane grow into friendship from both perspectives along with seeing the romance from the two perspectives, something I have previously mentioned I love. The main characters are Fi, Shane and Briar Rose though there was another character who was frequently in the story. I loved the characters, my favourite being Fi and I loved to hear about their backstories and how it was sprinkled throughout the story with a little bit here and there in a way I think I've only ever seen done similarly in Six of Crows. The characters felt real and believable, you could see their struggles and they couldn't do everything they did struggle and fail at things. I really enjoyed The Bone Spindle, I loved the characters and really enjoyed the retelling aspect and feel that it was done really well, there were a few Easter eggs relating back to the original fairytale that I loved and I feel that it was a great version of the original story. There wasn't anything direct that I wasn't a fan of, for me it just didn't give me a fie star feel. This book has been compared to Cinderella is Dead and I think that is a good comparison and would recommend it for fans of Cinderella is Dead (that is what drew my attention to this book in the first place). I would recommend The Bone Spindle, especially for fans of YA fantasy and retellings. A firm 4/4.5 stars.
