Für die Food&Lit-Challenge auf Litsy habe ich mir für Brasilien den Autoren Machado de Assis mit seinem berühmtesten Werk "The Alienist" ausgewählt. Unterdessen ist die Geschichte übrigens mit "The Psychiatrist" übersetzt. Die Geschichte ist mit viel Humor erzählt, man hat das Gefühl, der Autor würde einem ständig zuzwinkern und grinsen. Mir war das sehr sympathisch und auch das Kafkaeske, das ich in einigen Rezensionen erwähnt fand, fiel mir auf. Auf jeden Fall treibt de Assis hier ein Spiel ad absurdum, dem man aber nicht absprechen kann, in der Realität zu fussen. Denn wer schon einmal mit Behörden und ähnlichen Institutionen zu tun hatte, der weiss, dass manche Dinge dort genau so laufen. Natürlich ist hier alles überspitzt dargestellt, aber ich konnte mir das Ganze auch sehr gut im 21. Jahrhundert vorstellen. Von Machado de Assis hatte ich bis vor der Challenge noch nie gehört, aber sein Stil und seine Denkweise trifft genau meinen Nerv, weswegen ich gerne noch weitere Geschichten aus seiner Feder lesen möchte.
