Cam x Grady
The last volume of this series and just as good as the one before ❤️ A lot of spice again, but also great chemistry and somewhat cozy? At least sometimes. Low drama despite the topics, and funny ofc. So this time, it's not two roommates, but a professor (36) x student (23) relationship. Cam, who we know from the books before, has an anonymous hookup in the bathroom of a club... through a glory hole, believe it or not. On the other end, his professor Grady, who he has a seminar with next semester. They both don't know who the other is, and when they find out, it takes a while for them to accept the situation, but obviously, they can't let go of each other despite the risk 👀 The beginning was a bit weird, with the bathroom situation and all, but not out of character for this series 😂 Same with the chemistry though, it's always so nice ☺️ I loved how their relationship was written and how Cams past was portrayed. From the other books, we already know of his addiction, and he is 2 years sober now (I also like how the story wasn't about a relapse because I feel they often are with this topic). Here, we learn more about how/why he became an addict and how this was linked to the shame about his sexuality after growing up in a religious household. The conversations with his parents and what he said afterward hit me right in the heart 🥹 Same for the friendship between the roommates. The couples from the books before show up a few times, and I love their interactions (a bit sad there wasn't a scene with them meeting Grady though). This was a nice wrap-up of the series, ending with their graduation. First, I wasn't sure since Ansel didn't get a story yet, but he wasn't there much anyway, and it felt final, so I guess that's it. All in all, a great book. Just in the beginning, it took a while for me to really get into, but once they finally got together (as in decided on a friends with benefits situation that quickly felt like more), I was totally on board. As I said, there also wasn't much drama, as with all the books. Often, I crave it (if it makes sense and isn't just dumb misunderstandings), but here it felt right just enjoying their chemistry ☺️❤️
Many reviews said this book didn't have the intense "obscene vibe" of the others, but I definitely didn't find that to be true at all. First, the inclusion of the Glory Hole ... hello, how hot is that?! Unexpected, but loved it. Then, the whole Professor x Student trope - especially the scenes in his office - was thrilling. I honestly didn't think I would enjoy this trope so much! The smut was definitely horny, and while the trope could have been explored a bit more, it delivered. I loved how Cam was absolutely honest and open about their situation. The secret came out quickly, and he was immediately transparent about wanting to continue seeing the him, which actually helped to take the power imbalance out of the equation since the student was pushing for it. The emotional arc was great. They kept trying to stay away from each other but quickly longed for the other and got intensely jealous ... it was very well executed. So yeah, it was a bit short, but for the length, everything important was included: hot smut, great tension, and a very solid storyline.
