Description

To the outside world, they were the icons of high society — the most glamorous and influential women of their age. To Truman Capote they were his Swans: the ideal heroines, as vulnerable as they were powerful. They trusted him with their most guarded, martini-soaked secrets, each believing she was more special and loved than the next…until he betrayed them. ‘Writers write. And one can’t be surprised if they write what they know.’

The writing is lush, lovely and perfectly fitting for the story and the people in it. The way the characters are written when hurt and their reactions to one another were so well done and fascinating. I love that every character is written both mockingly and admiringly at the same time. The only thing that kept me from being fully engaged is that I just don't love the gossip, shallow relationships and life style of the high society. Also, the ending wasn't as poignant as I expected from the rest of the book (but honestly, where should this story go?) and some parts interested me more than others. However, I think there is some stunning character work in here and the author, very competently, made some great stylistic choices.
