Der Schreibstil von James Rollins ist für mich wie nach Hause kommen. In der Erzählperspektive beschreibt er gekonnt aus unterschiedlichen Sichten die Reise in ein Höhlensystem unter der Antarktis. Die multiplen POVs fand ich wieder sehr gelungen. James Rollins greift immer auch die Perspektive der Antagonisten auf und schafft es so eine Spannung aufzubauen, die seinesgleichen sucht. Der Roman war unheimlicher als gedacht! Die Gefahren in dem Höhlensystem lauern überall und machen es dem Team rund um Ashley und Ben schwer. Ashley ist Anthropologin, alleinerziehende Mutter und eine wirklich starke Frau. Als Leiterin des Teams hat sie alle Hand zu tun, vor allem da ihr Sohn in der Alpha Station auf sie wartet. Ich fand sie gut ausgearbeitet, genauso wie die anderen Charaktere. Rollins schafft es ein rundes Charakterpaket zu liefern. Und das Einbeziehen eines Kindes in eine solche Situation hat mir überraschend gut gefallen. Letztlich war der Roman aber ganz anders, als erwartet. Das Begann schon bei der Gefahr in den Höhlengängen, als auch beim schlussendlichen Plottwist. Der war zwar überaus interessant, aber mir vielleicht etwas zu abgedreht. Nichtsdestotrotz schafft es James Rollins das Tempo anzuziehen, den Ernst der Situation aufzuzeigen und die ganze Geschichte in einem gut ausgearbeiteten Höhepunkt gipfeln zu lassen. Von mir gibt es ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sterne!
