⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — No Slow, Just Burn Disclaimer: This review contains spoilers for the first two books in The Shattered Crown series. Declared victors of the Arcane Crucible, Elyria Lightbreaker and Cedric Thorne set out with clear goals: stop Varyth Malchior, find the second piece of Queen Daephinia’s shattered crown, and close the chasm with its power. Easier said than done. A fragile new peace between Havensreach and Nyrundelle grants humans access to the Midlands — and its precious magic resources. Both victors find themselves caught in the tense reunion of Humans and Arcanians, paraded through courtly duties as symbols of unity. Inevitably, Cedric and Elyria’s paths cross again, rekindling the tension that burns between them. But that fire has to wait. Their missions soon pull them apart once more, setting the stage for intrigue, revelations, found family, and unexpected allies. 👑 An excellent continuation in The Shattered Crown Series. After the first book’s sparks, the chemistry between Cedric and Elyria ignites immediately — and burns bright until the end. It took me only two chapters to be completely enraptured. Gretchen gives the emotions space to flourish, the plot room to breathe, and the reader time to understand the new political landscape before plunging into all the twists, turns, and heartache. I held my breath more than once — sometimes out of excitement, often in dread of the emotional blow I knew was coming. Service Announcement: keep the tissues close! 💜 Favorites Trope: Gretchen (and Elyria along with her) is officially the queen of tavern brawls. I’m begging for another one in Book Three. Character: Give me a side character whose first language is banter and I’m sold — I adore Tristan. Close second: Tenebris Nox (for the D&D folks, he gives off strong Mollymauk vibes). Not to forget our newest addition, Sid! Pair: Don’t get me wrong, I love Elyria and Cedric, but there’s something blooming between Kai and Tenebris… and I’m dying to see where it leads. Dynamic: The Legolas–Gimli-style relationship between Thraigg and Tenebris? Chef’s kiss. Quotes: "What do you want?" "To find a light of my own now that I've mastered the darkness." "Then it's your turn to burn bright, Elle. And if anyone dares to try and dim that light, you -" "I'm the one in trouble. You simply are trouble."

Honest Review in exchange for a free digital copy of Splintered Kingdom (ARC) Well! First of all: I'm not ok. Second of all: The first thing I did after finishing this ARC was scream at the author in my mind. Because wow. Holy shit. Okay. Let me gather my thoughts. It did take me a while to get into the book, but, as with the first book: once I was in, I was in. Just like Cedric and Elyria's relationship, my reading experience was a slow burn, so to say. But I also feel like their slow burn was also slowly burning me because damn - that tension, that *yearning*. Hot boy (pun intended) knows how to yearn (and I love to see it). Not only was their relationship not rushed; it developed and grew strong, which I loved (even if I was screaming at Elyria a lot). The plot itself, outside of the relationship, might have been established in the first book but for me it took a while to get rolling, but once it did, it did not stop and I couldn't stop reading. So if you think it's going too slow: Don't worry, it will pick up faster than you think. Enjoy the calm while it lasts. The descriptions of the world and the characters were wonderfully written. The connections were beautifully established, and you could really feel like you were along for the journey. Not only the connections between the characters but also the story and the intricate plot itself was just *chefs kiss*. I love it when books and the stories in it are surprising me, especially when it comes out of nowhere. And speaking of: that plot twist got me really good, I did not see it coming and had to lay down my e-reader for a minute. All in all I LOVED the book and I will give it 5 Stars because that's what it deserves! (Also for shadow kitty) Now I only have two questions for the author: 1. Where can I get my own Cedric? 2. BOOK 3 WHEN??????
