In this book, the build up to the final catastrophe is a lot slower. Instead, Valkyrie's personal problems is in the spotlight. And when I say personal problems I mean stuff like getting your heart operated outside of your body and being undead and fun hobbies like that. I hope that all the younger teens that read the beginning of the series have grown up by now, because all the things that are happening made even me a little queasy. Even though the plot is slower, the tension is a lot higher and I almost started to bite my nails in anticipation. In this book, again, I felt like the humor was a little... forced. I can understand that humor helps with the dark topics, but it didn't feel right for me. I was too busy looking out for remnants to appreciate those attempts. All in all, I really liked the book and its suspense, especially the last chapter that opened up too many new questions.
What I really like about Skulduggery, that he is always fair and never hesitates to make decisions - even bad ones. I am glad that the 'strain' bewteen Valkyrie and Skulduggery are kind of sorted out. I must admit that I didn't like the part with Dr. Nye and the name sealing stuff, this was even for the world they all live in odd. A zone of death and only Nye can live in there? Also it's not clear if the Dullahan is a servant or not. The whole Remnant plot is interesting, all sorceres etc. have no way to defend against them.
"Plans are an invitation to disappointment." I'm disappointed, too. Disappointed that it took me three days to finish this book when it clearly could have been done faster because it was so fricking good. But my body decided it needed more sleep than usual. Damn it. Where was I? Ah, Skulduggery. I loved this series from book 1 and I can't help loving it more with each book and even the reread won't get boring because there are so many little things you tend to forget and the bickering between the charackters (who I all adore in their own way) just make it a really fun read. This book had so much important stuff happening (and I don't mean me getting more and more into wondering if there's a ship name for Valkyrie and Skulduggery? I mean, in these books she's still a little young so I'm fine with the current relationship status but...) and there are so many characters coming out to play, there's a little foreshadowing of what's to come and it's gonna be huge! Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling. I love this book. Go and read this series if you like sarcastic characters and magic.
