To be fair it wasn't as bad as it could of been. I had heard good things about this book but for me sorry it just wasn't there. It just felt like I was watching the story of my neighbours out of the window and nothing was really happening, except it was teenagers and wolves. Not as enthralling as I was expecting by the time I got to the middle I was basically forcing myself to finish it. Not a good book, so I don't think I'll be finishing the series. Sorry
The story was nice, but I'm sorry to say this, but also a little stumpy. The beginning and Grace obsession about the wolfes were kind of weird, especially when you consider that she was attacked by them. The book was really short in my opinion and I was through in only two days. For me it was more short story than rather a real book. But the end was nice and all were happy. Hope the next of this series is better. Handlung: Grace wohnt zusammen mit ihren Eltern in einem Haus, das direkt neben dem Wald liegt, in welchem ein Wolfsrudel lebt. Grace ist von je her von den Wölfen begeistert und freut sich jedes Jahr auf dem Winter wenn die Wölfe nach Mercy Falls zurück kehren. Ein Fable der nicht ganz widersprüchlich ist, da Grace als kleines Kind von den Wölfen angefallen und in den Wald verschleppt wurde und man bis heute nicht weiß, warum sie schlussendlich doch verschont wurde. Dieses Jahre, Ende des Sommers passiert plötzlich etwas sehr merkwürdiges – ein Junge, nackt und verletzt liegt auf der Veranda von Graces Haus, und als sie ihm hilft, bemerkt sie dass seine Augen ihrem Lieblingswolfes im Rudel sehr ähnlich sehen, zu ähnlich… Meine Gedanken: Die Geschichte war nett und auch die Charaktere und die Schreibweise war okay. Aber das war es auch für mich schon – es war eben einfach nur nett und nicht atemberaubend oder außergewöhnlich und für mich eine Geschichte die zum Einmallesen nett ist, aber über die ich mir danach keine Gedanken mehr gemacht habe. Der Anfang war sehr schleppend und es hat lange gedauert, bis endlich irgendetwas Interessantes passiert ist. Außerdem fand ich Graces Liebe bzw. ihre Besessenheit gegenüber den Wölfen schon etwas komisch, besonders wenn man bedenkt, dass sie als Kind von ihnen attackiert wurde. Für mich erschien das Buch außerdem sehr kurz, es wirkte eher wie eine Kurzgeschichte als wie ein eigenständiges, ganzes Buch. Das Ende war dafür aber okay und man bekam das ersehnte Happy End, zumindest vorläufig. Ich werde zwar sicherlich das zweite Buch in dieser Serie auch lesen, aber nicht sehr bald, da meine Prioritäten bei anderen Büchern liegen…. Ich weiß zwar, dass ich mit meiner Meinung zu diesem Buch ziemlich alleine da stehe, da ich runder herum oft nur positives höre. Aber ich fand es eben nicht prickelnd, wahnsinnig toll oder sooo romantisch und berührend wie andere, sondern eher schleppend und lang und zäh zum lesen. Doch das hier ist nur mein persönliches Empfinden und soll kein Angriff auf Autorin oder Fans sein. Englisches Cover: Spricht mich nicht besonders an und ist auch sehr unspektakulär – kein Eye-Catcher und man bekommt auch keinen Einblick auf die Story des Buches. Fazit: Nettes, seichtes Buch mit freundlichen Charakteren, in dem die Geschichte langsam dahin plätschert.
[Spoiler free section] This is my first book by Maggie Stiefvater and I went into it without any expectations, I was just here for a good ol' werewolf romance time. I think she mostly delivered on that. Though I'm hoping there is more werewolf plot in the second book. I'm giving it four instead of five stars, because personally there was something about the writing or maybe the plot that didn't have me in a chokehold. It's still a good book and I enjoyed myself, but there was just something about it that didn't make it amazing for me personally. I am however looking forward to Maggie's other books and hope that this was just a case of the book being early on in her career. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes werewolves, sweet boys with tragic backstories and in general a more slice of life tone with some added stakes and drama in the latter half of the book. [Spoilers from this point] I wished the beginning was a bit more elaborate. I prefer slowburn romances and it didn't necessarily had to be a lot of slow burn, but just a few more chapters of Grace and Sam longing for each other. I enjoyed the dual POV, I wish more books (that I'm into) had that. But I have to say that Sam's POV was much more interesting. Not that I dislike Grace, I think she was fine, but that's about it. Nothing special, but she didn't need to be. It still worked, Sam was really cute, their relationship was wholesome (although I hard cringed at him being a "musician" and thinking of lyrics at times. To be fair that's a me problem, I just think musicians are cringey and not romantic, but if you're into that you'll love this). My biggest compliment to this book is how unique the werewolf mythology is, at least I've never read a story about werewolves that change because of temperature. I thought that was really cool, as well as the fact that at some point the werewolves just stay wolves. Adds great stakes to an otherwise slice of life-y story. Beck and the others essentially homeschooling Sam was really cute, I loved that little bit of backstory. In general I thought Sam's backstory was tragic, but interesting. He's just a good character all around. Shoutout to Isabel as well, loved her lol!
