It's epic, it's sci-fi, it's dystopian. It's my kinda book. The worldbuilding in Seek the Traitor's Son is highly complex with knights, space stations, advanced technology, and a mysterious prophecy that ties it all together. It’s a lot to take in, but Roth makes it work, creating a world that’s as intriguing as it is expansive. At the center of the both the plot in the in-world worship is "the Fever", a ritual forced upon those coming of age. It will either kill them or bring them unique powers. I particularly loved how the romance subplot only simmered beneath the surface without overshadowing the main plot. It was there and it was meaningful, but it didn’t steal the show. And I loved that there is queer rep! The characters are extremely interesting, with their own motivations, secrets, and moral ambiguities. Elegy Ahn, the protagonist, is a standout. She's tough and determined. The supporting cast is great as well. No notes there. Now, I’ll admit, I’m getting a bit tired of the prophecy trope lately, especially knowing that nothing is as it seems. But then again, a bit of mystery of how things will play out also keeps me interested. I loved the audio narration very much, putting me right into the center of things and keeping everything highly immersive. 4/5 stars Thank you to @NetGalley and @macmillan.audio for the eARC! #SeekTheTraitorsSon #Bookstagram #NetGalley
