Description

A shape-shifting soldier falls in love with the human woman she’s supposed to kill in this compelling lesbian paranormal romance, part one in the award-winning Shape-Shifter series. For solitary novelist Jorie Price, true love seems as fictional as the shape-shifting creatures she writes about in her paranormal romances.Griffin Westmore doesn’t believe in love either, but she’s one of those not-so-fictional shape-shifters who secretly live among humans. When Jorie’s writing gets uncomfortably close to the truth, Griffin is sent to investigate and, if necessary, kill the author to protect the secrets of her kind. But when Griffin unexpectedly finds herself drawn to Jorie, her world is turned upside-down. Hell, she’s supposed to kill the human, not fall in love with her! How can she complete her mission now?

3.5⭐ The first 18 chapters were giving 5 stars, but then it went downhill. And the ending was also rather underwhelming. I wanted to give it a 4, but I was really unsatisfied with basically everything that happened at the end. This is the first shapeshifter book I've ever read and I was definitely very intrigued. I did enjoy the storyline but I just found myself feeling bored throughout it. It just dragged on and on and I just wanted to be done. I feel like most of what happened was necessary for the story, but some things just seemed dragged out. I just couldn't really take it seriously, I mean, they want to kill her because she's writing a book about shapeshifters...? Throughout the book I definitely thought it was well written and thought out, but the way it all ended and came together at the end just seemed to simple and I was really disappointed. I really liked Griffin but I couldn't really connect with Jorie. I liked her but she wasn't anything special. I really liked some of the side characters, others not so much. I also felt like some of the side characters were kinda forgotten throughout the story - they were present for a big part of the book and then never really mentioned again. I did really love the romance, a very slow burn is exactly what I like. The development was good, but at the end it was just underwhelming. I was really excited to read the other books in the series, but now I'm not too sure if I still want to do that.
