"Ophies Ghosts" erinnert ein wenig an "City of Ghosts" von VE Schwab und ist für Fans des letzteren Buches somit grundsätzlich interessant. Ireland gibt der Thematik jedoch einen zusätzlichen Dreh, indem sie das Thema der Sklaverei und die Beziehung zwischen Schwarzen und Weissen aufgreift und verarbeitet. Dieses Buch ist einer jener Titel, von denen ich nicht genug bekommen konnte und genau deswegen auch nicht wollte, dass die Geschichte je zu Ende geht. Ophie ist mir mehr und mehr ans Herz gewachsen. Sie ist ein glaubhafter Charakter - sie zweifelt an ihren Fähigkeiten, macht Fehler, aber sie hat das Herz eindeutig am rechten Fleck. Die Krimihandlung ist angenehm im restlichen Plot eingebunden. Ireland schafft es, viel Atmosphäre zu schaffen, wie aus ihren Jugendromanen gewohnt. Die Autorin hat also auch ein erzählerisches Talent für ein jüngeres Publikum. Das Hörbuch ist hervorragend gelesen und aufgrund des Settings empfehle ich sogar, dieses der Printversion vorzuziehen. Man bekommt durch Sprecherin Bahni Turpin eine gute Portion Slang und Dialekt geliefert. Es ist herrlich, ihr zuzuhören! Dieses Buch ist somit ein rundes Gesamtpaket mit allem, was mein Herz begehrt.
