A Complex Journey Through Power and Identity

As a non-native English speaker, I found "Oathbound" surprisingly accessible while maintaining its intricate storytelling. Tracy Deonn's writing style flows naturally, making it easy to follow the complex magical world she has created, even for readers who aren't reading in their first language. The story picks up with Bree's self-imposed exile and her controversial deal with the Shadow King, leading to some intense and thought-provoking moments. While the plot occasionally loses momentum, particularly during the political discussions among the Order members, the overall narrative remains engaging enough to keep turning pages. Character development could have been more pronounced, especially considering the emotional weight of Bree's decisions and their impact on her relationships. However, the world-building continues to be one of the story's strongest aspects, seamlessly blending Arthurian legend with contemporary themes. The way the author handles complex topics like power, identity, and sacrifice resonates well, even if some nuances might be more challenging to grasp in a second language. The pacing issues don't significantly detract from the overall experience, though they do impact the story's momentum at times. Despite these minor drawbacks, I'm definitely invested enough to continue with the series and plan to revisit this book. The blend of modern fantasy with ancient mythology creates an intriguing backdrop that warrants a second read to catch details I might have missed the first time. Overall rating: 3.5/5 stars - A solid continuation of the series that, while not perfect, delivers an engaging story accessible to both native and non-native English readers.
