This was a fascinating read portraying various viewpoints on the industrial revolution and other issues of the time. With a diverse cast of characters from several social origins it tells a compelling story with dramatic and more quiet moments as well. I really liked that the reader discovers both good and bad attributes about John Thornton and can develope their own understanding of him. I found myself both agreeing and disagreeing with Margaretes views on him. The use of different styles of speech and the language in general was well done and made the book very enjoyable to read. In general I had a good time , though I'm not that fond of the ending, which seems to be a recurring theme for me with classic novels containing some degree of romance (which this one actually doesn't do much).
