Calista, eine junge Griechin lernt in den 70er Jahren während ihres Roadtrips durch die USA eine Weggefährtin kennen und fortan möchten sie zusammen weiterziehen. An einem Abend begleitet sie ihre neue Bekanntschaft zu einem Dinner mit dem weltbekannten Billy Wilder. Dort angekommen (wie sich heraus stellt stark underdressed), lernt sie den für sie bis anhin noch unbekannten Wilder kennen und dieser wiederum findet zunehmends Gefallen an den beiden, denn sie sind zwar unwissend wer er genau ist, sie kennen seine erfolgreichen Filme gar nicht und treten in das eine oder andere Fettnäpfchen, doch die schnodrige Geradlinigkeit gefällt ihm und er angagiert die junge Griechin denn er braucht noch eine Dolmetscherin für seinen neusten Film 'Fedora' der in Griechenland spielt. Jonathan Coe hat hier einen wunderbaren Roman geschrieben über den Perfektionisten Wilder dem der Humor nie abhanden kam und der stets an sich geglaubt hat. Wer das Buch liest dem wird bestimmt eines klar: man müsste Billy Wilder gekannt haben! grosse Leseempfehlung!
