Uni romance with PTSD from religious trauma
More like a 3,75 ☆. It's one of these stories, where there is more smut than actual story, which I personally don't mind if the chemistry is good, but I can see why some people wouldn't like it 😅 Personally, I enjoyed this one, but there were really a few too many smut scenes back to back. Though, they were creative and I liked their dynamic. The story is about Lane and Noah, who become step-brothers at 14, but don't like each other much. Lane grew up in a very strict and religious environment (more like a cult) with his grandfather and is repressing a lot of his emotions and desires. Once Noah notices, he becomes a sort of release for that, and they develop this kind of codependent dynamic. Most of the story takes place once they enter uni with a sports scholarship and are roommates 👀 But to call this a sport romance is just wrong imo 😂 The football is barely in the story. There are a few mentions that they are going to practice or games, but nothing of that is really described or plays any role. Even the side characters, aka teammates, don't have much to say. Mostly the one other gay player and the supposed best friend of Noah, who he admits himself he isn't paying much attention to rn 😅 I didn't mind any of that though (also don't care for football, so actually glad there wasn't much to it lol). The story consists of mainly two things: Their developing relationship, and Lanes' religious trauma/past. They use sex as coping mechanism for him against his panic attacks. Obviously, not healthy, but that seems to be the only thing that can snap him out of it at the time. Also, in the beginning, Noah teases him with his reactions when they still "hate" each other, which I didn't really buy and was over pretty quickly 😅 (which was good). All in all, I really liked it. It was nice to see them slowly accept their attraction and develop feelings. The trauma parts were written well, though sometimes the mood switched a bit too quickly between that and smut, and it happened a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. I was surprised they could even come that often 😂 It was also nice how they used a save word for Lane (and it took them a long time to go "all the way" because of the trauma), but apparently they have never heard of condoms cause not once was that a topic. I am not someone who needs much realism, but this one is always weird, especially when other stuff is treated so seriously 😅 Well, as you can see, I have some criticism, but subjectivity I had fun reading. It's rather long, but didn't feel like it. Read it in 3 days. I'll also read the other ones from this series at some point. Btw it was also giving me kinda "For the Fans" vibes. Many similar tropes (uni, spice, religious trauma), the way it was written in the beginning with the time jumps, and the length.
This book was so good?! 🫢
A stepbrother X football romance? Yes, Sir! 🫡 I honestly didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did in the end but omg I absolutely did enjoy it! 🫢 The dynamic between Noah and Lane was super interesting and the build up of their relationship was sooooo good! The way Lane slowly opened up to Noah throughout the book was beautiful to witness and the way Noah cares for him and knows exactly what he needs in stressful and overwhelming situations was also incredible sweet! 😩💞 The mental health aspect and the religious trauma Noah experienced in his childhood was portrayed really well and was very important not only for the whole storyline but also for the development of their relationship! On top of an incredible storyline, the amount of spicy moments and the DIVERSITY of these scenes was literally insane (in the best way possible 🥵) - These two do not hold back! 🥴 Big recommendation from me ❣️
