About the book

HE HAD TO FACE THE TOUGHEST JOB OF HIS LIFE. AND HE NEVER ONCE THOUGHT HE'D BE ON HIS OWN.
Harry had it all: a beautiful wife, an adorable four-year-old son, and a high-paying media job. But on the eve of his thirtieth birthday, with one irresponsible act, he threw it all away. Suddenly he finds himself an unemployed single father trying to figure out how to wash his son's hair the way Mommy did and whether green spaghetti is proper breakfast food. This brilliantly engaging novel will tug at your heart as Harry learns to become a father to his son and a son to his aging father, takes stabs at finding new love, and makes the hardest decision of his life.

Man and Boy is about Harry Silver, a talkshow producer with wife and kid living a happy, easy life until he missteps in his marriage. Consequently losing the idyllic life he's been living, having to take over much more responsibility in parenting, having to change his career, he is faced with a multitude of challenges. I loved this book. It is written from the perspective of the "destroyer" of the marriage, but still in a very honest way without glossing over the bad character traits of Harry. It challenges the traditional pictures of marriage, parenting, self-fulfillment and love through intergenerational conflicts and very realistic hardships in life. Harry is always concerned about all of his actions' impact on his son Pat, but also, quite understandably, struggles to put him first at all times. With all the developments Harry is facing in his life, his beliefs get challenged constantly, as well as the traditional role of man and woman in society. Similarly, the reader's beliefs get constantly challenged as well, which keeps the book interesting and the character development much more relatable. Would definitely recommend.
