Description
I always knew darkness crept through this city, like a shadow, it never really goes away, always watching, always waiting.
People sin and people kill, it's a way of life.
I just never expected to be thrown into the middle of a war I had no hope of surviving.
Alexander Silver is as brutal as he is beautiful.
A Devil in disguise.
The man destined to end me.
I didn't go looking for trouble and yet it found me, nonetheless.
I could either join it or let it crush me.
Lex
Wren Valentine
My sweet Little Bird.
I had no right dragging her into my world of violence and bloodshed, but I did it anyway.
I am the King, sitting on a throne of chaos.
She was supposed to be the enemy, the means to an end, but she became much more than that.
In this life, you take what you want and strike down those who oppose you.
She is mine.
And I'll paint the streets red if anyone dares to take her.

Damn, I'm torn about this one. I really like the MC, she's fierce, she does not take any shit from anyone but still she's not a bitch to everyone, she has emotions, she has weaknesses and for the first time in a long while I did enjoy reading a female MC's POV in a mafia-ish dark romance, because she walked this thin line between too bitchy and too weakly so damn well. I also enjoyed reading Lex' POV, the side characters are likable, too, so why am I so torn? Because this book needs someone to proofread. I'll never understand how you could publish something, without someone checking your spelling, searching for typos and adding a comma here and there because you know what, they are for free, you can just use them! And even if you do not have a human proofreading, there are still tools in this wonder of the WWW, which do the work for you. I liked this book, I really did, but the obivous errors, the countless missing punctuation characters and other little things (like sometimes the chapter starts with the name of the person, whose POV it is going to be, most of the time the name is missing and the author has you guessing for a couple of sentences, whose thoughts and actions you are currently reading about - a little thing, but annoying as fuck) angered me. The author obviously spent a lot of time writing, so why skip the part of checking for errors and faults? I'm done ranting now, here, have a cookie if you made it this far. I'll go read the second book now, as number one did end on a massive cliffhanger and I enjoyed Lex and Wren too much, to not care about how that turns out for them.
