Good book with flaws

All in all I think this is a good book. An important topic paired with a good story. It was pleasant and easy to read, but I feel like there was too much info dumping about the queer pop culture in the 80s. Especially in the first few chapters. And the characters seemed a little flat. Like they had no personality outside of the relationships they had with each other. The ending also felt a little rushed. But overall I would still recommend this book. It's not a bad book but it has its flaws.

2,5* First off, the representation and message of this book deserve 5 stars. More even. What fell extremely flat for me were the characters. Especially Reza was annoyingly bland and naive and I didn't get what Art and Judy saw in him at all. They literally BOTH fall in love with him after meeting him, like once. Reza's relationship with Art started out with no chemistry whatsoever. I also didn't appreciate that half-cooked redemption arc for Saadi, the most homophobic and fatphobic character I've ever read about. This was poorly executed and didn't do anything for the story. This book was also jam-packed with pop-cultural references. It was just too much. However, I learned a lot about the AIDS crisis of the late 80s and I loved the portrayal of the gay community during that time.
