Das Buch hat mir gut gefallen, weil es die emotionalen Verwicklungen der Figuren eindrucksvoll zeigt und auch das frühere Leben der Protagonisten mit einbezieht. Besonders interessant fand ich, dass der verstorbene Charakter trotz seines Todes im ganzen Buch präsent bleibt. Der Schreibstil ist angenehm zu lesen, auch wenn mich die Geschichte nicht durchgehend gefesselt hat. Insgesamt eine lesenswerte, wenn auch eher ruhige Lektüre.
Spannendes Beziehungs- bzw. Freundschaftsgeflecht
„Die grausame Wahrheit ist, dachte Christine, dass sie, wenn sie das Schmerzlichste und Demütigende der Trennung einmal überwunden hätte, keine Verwendung mehr für Alex haben würde.“ (S.292) Zunächst habe ich gestöhnt, weil der Roman etwas beinhaltet, das ich gar nicht gerne habe: Wenige und dementsprechend elendig lange Kapitel. Aber die Erzählweise und der Inhalt waren ansprechend und kurzweilig. Die Thematik hat mir sehr zugesagt, weil langjährige Beziehungen zu Partner*innen und Freund*innen selten unkompliziert sind - immer schwingen hier Unausgesprochenes, Vergleiche und auch unausgeglichene Verhältnisse mit. Wie Hadley diese geschickt verpackt und diese Abhängigkeiten thematisiert, die durch einen Schicksalsschlag unausweichlich gemacht werden, hat mir sehr zugesagt. Das war mit Sicherheit nicht mein letzter Roman von Tessa Hadley!
