Description
As one of the Embraced―one born with magical powers―the beautiful, innocent Luciana escaped certain death after her father hid her away on the Isle of Moon. Now, nineteen years later, her father has returned with a frightening request. He will be executed unless Luciana returns to the mainland and marries a man feared throughout the land: a terrifying brute known as the Beast.
Luciana accepts her fate and agrees to wed the Beast―Lord Leo―in order to save her father. Soon she learns that her betrothed is also one of the Embraced. With the ability to wield lightning, Leo’s immense power strikes fear into the hearts of men. . .and his mere touch can put an end to a woman’s life. But Luciana cannot deny the passion that burns between them. How can she resist the man who scorches her soul and makes her feel intoxicated with desire―even if surrendering to him could destroy them both?

This is my second time reading this book (I’m rereading the whole series because of the new book coming out last month) and I love it as much as I did the first time!!!!!!!! To begin with, the world created by Kerrelyn is just wonderful and you can tell by reading this book that there is much more to come. We’re going to explore 5 different worlds for 5 different sisters and all of them are going to be awesomely built. Just the idea of The Embraced, is so simple overall but it’s built so carefully with the Sun and Moons religion/worshipping and the twins being cursed and the idea that the King hates the Embraced because they have power power he doesn’t. Yeah it’s just all so well done! Now, to talk about the characters : Luciana is great, she’s fierce and intelligent and caring. I love the contrast made between her and Tatiana, who gets a good redeeming arc throughout the whole book. I was scared of the whole “having to take her sister’s place” plotpoint, because it tends to create a lot of drama within the relationship but it ended up not being a priority, compared to everything else happening. I loved Leo, he was really sweet and clever. His powers made him so interesting, I wish we’d gone further into them, but I understand a book can only be so long. And the pace of the book was really good so I really wouldn’t want to disrupt it. The whole starved for human contact thing was so interesting because usually it’s a female’s character plot point. Love, I’m starting to reread the next book right away
