Das Buch startet schon mit einem Schock.Schon der Prolog reicht um einen in Tränen ausbrechen zu lassen. Was Preston durchmachen muss ist mit unvergleichlich. Wie sehr ihn das zerstört kann man in dem Moment nicht mal erahnen. Mit dem Wissen ist es leichter zu ertragen, als er sich seinem neuen Team gegenüber direkt mal als riesiges Arschloch benimmt, schließlich weiß keiner von ihnen womit er leben muss wenn er sich nicht an Regeln hält. Aber sein Roommate, Jeremy, ist auf einen eigenartige Art und Weise von ihm angezogen. Doch egal was kommt, auf keinen Fall darf Jeremy hinter das Geheimnis von Preston kommen, nicht auszudenken was dann passieren würde… Ich fand es unglaublich berührend, zu lesen in welchen kaum unterschiedlicheren Familien die beiden groß geworden sind. Die eine zerstört bis nichts mehr übrig war, die andere so groß und so herzlich dass noch jede Menge Platz für mehr ist. Das eine zerstört einen beim lesen, während die anderen mit so viel Liebe einen einfach nur schwärmen lassen. Das Buch hatte ich RuckZuck durch, es war eins von der Sorte die man nicht mehr weglegen möchte. Ich fand es von Anfang bis Ende echt rund, es hat mir sehr gefallen, und auch, wenn die Feindseligkeit am Anfang zwischen Preston und Jeremy ruhig noch etwas ausgeprägter hätte sein können, fand ich es trotzdem in Ordnung. Ich hätte ihnen Hass sowieso nicht abgekauft, irgendwie war da von Anfang an mehr. Ich mochte außerdem sehr dass auch ein großer Fokus auf dem Eishockey lag, denn mal ehrlich, davon kann man nicht genug haben. Ich starte jetzt direkt mal mit Teil 2, liebe die beiden Protas aus dem Buch jetzt schon und bin sehr gespannt, und außerdem freue mich, dass es ganz bald schon Band 3 geben wird.
Sometimes a book pops up in one of your feeds and you just think like “Yes, this. Right now.” It’s not just me, isn’t it? I’ve never heard of Andi Jaxon prior to stumbling over Hidden Scars and as I’m still quite new to MM romance, this was combined with one of my favourite sports and that’s all that was needed for me to be sold on this. I checked Kindle Unlimited, downloaded, and started reading. And … I just didn’t stop. It took me 1,5 days to read this and that only because that strange concept of real life with real people wanted some attention, too. The two main characters are fascinating, each in their own way. We have Preston, the dark, mysterious, and massively challenging guy that towers over everyone and keeps pushing the people around him – away and to better versions of themselves. He is riddled with trauma, has a hard time trusting just about anyone and is the hardest working student on campus. And we have Jeremy, the human incarnation of a Golden Retriever, kind, relentlessly so, enjoying the good sides of life and slowly, slowly dragging Preston out the dark and into the light. I enjoyed the development between Preston and Jeremy a lot, but what really sold me on this were the side characters. The hockey team? Goofballs, all of them. The family on Jeremy’s side? Pure-hearted and gold. Pres’ sister? Little badass in the process of growing into herself. I’m absolutely sure everyone needs a Brendon in their life for the “should we really be doing this”-moments and that’s a hill I’ll die on. But if there’s also a Paul, that should help, too. The plot had very, very dark moments, but it was balanced, and the reader is able to take breaks, too. I enjoyed seeing them grow together and sprinkle a bit possessiveness, protectiveness and sassy, spicy banter on top and I was gone for these two. This was definitely not my last Andi Jaxon book and I’m looking forward to reading more.
