Die Geschichte wird aus den Perspektiven von Charlotte und Harriet, der Mutter von Alice erzählt. Da zusätzlich auch in der Zeit gesprungen wird, kam ich manchmal durcheinander. Zu Beginn hatte ich relativ schnell einen Verdacht, wer hinter dem Verschwinden stecken könnte. Ich befürchtete schon, dass es ein klarer Fall ist und der Rest des Buchs langweilig wird, aber nach gut der Hälfte wurde ich eines besseren belehrt. Die Story wurde wieder spannend und es kamen ein paar schöne Plottwists hinzu. Und spätestens ab dem Showdown konnte ich das Buch nicht mehr weglegen. Das Ende war weder spektakulär noch völlig überraschend, sondern einfach irgendwie passend. Die Gefühle der Protagonisten wurden im gesamten Verlauf gut dargestellt und somit wurden die Handlungen der Figuren nachvollziehbar. Ein bisschen enttäuscht war ich allerdings von der Leistung der Polizei - wobei darin eindeutig nicht der Fokus der Autorin lag.
