Tropes – online dating – slow burn – demisexual MMC – hockey romance – brothers ex teammate
I think this book tackles some topics I deem very important, like “discovering your own sexuality“ or “what does it mean to be ‘demisexual‘?“ You probably hear the ‘but‘ already, do you? Eventhough I loved the character growth of our two main characters, especially Seth’s journey in finding out he is demi, I can‘t help but hate most of the side characters, first and foremost Seth’s exgirlfriend Emma. The book pretty much starts with her breaking up with Seth, and the way she does it, and the way she forces a label on him…thinking of this scene still makes me so damn angry. Maybe it‘s my own experiences and my own strong opinions regarding this matter, but I‘m mad that this is how his journey of self–discovery starts. Regarding Cohen it’s not as infuriating as with Seth, but I‘m still not happy about the way it happens. His backstory is addressed in the previous book. He kissed his best friend and liked it, and therefore his teammates imply they know his sexuality better than he does. He may be in denial, but it‘s not their call. That‘s the part I don‘t like: that the side characters kind of force their opinions on these two. Due to this I‘m also not okay with an action of Seth’s later on in the book when he takes a decision for Cohen. However, the way they question their sexuality and start using this dating app, and finally get in touch with each other is written in such a cute way, I did enjoy it so much. It’s slow burn at its best. The tension gives me all the tingles in the best way, though while reading I knew more of what was going on than they themselves. But that is also part of the fun. I also liked that the main characters of the previous books have some appearances, and we get to meet Asher, one of the MMCs of the next CU book. 3/5⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Even though this was a reread, I still loved the story unfolding - and as a person on the ace spectrum myself I appreciate the representation SO much!🥹❤️
3.5 - I really liked the representation of the ace spectrum! the course of the book isn’t really different than the other two books. I will continue the series since I’m just too curious about the other couples and their stories. but what I’m really missing in the whole series is the big third act break-up/fight. I want misery (temporarily), the groveling and the big redemption.
This was actually really sweet and I did end up enjoying the demi representation a lot! I'm gonna learn my Puckboy lesson though and won't pick up the other books in this series for something in their summary doesn't work for me. Two things that are incredibly funny to me: 1) apparently all of Eden Finley's Hockey themed romances take place in the same universe, because you start knowing every. character. I already chuckled about Maddox and Damon showing up in Puckboys 3, and I'm guessing CU Hockey came out before Puckboys, because I already knew so many of the people in it :D 2) So many mentions of Jockstraps and not one dirty joke about them *shakes head* (yes, I did find out through this series that they are actual sportswear and not a queer fashion item, oops)
